At least Dallas got a shot on goal during the 2 Hawks power plays. This lineup looks really bad tonight.

Yeah, well not a great period, but Dallas only had 7 shots and no goals, so...would be a moral victory if the Hawks had more than 3 shots...

Shots through twenty:

Chicago: 3 on goal, 5 missed, 10 blocked
Dallas: 7 on goal, 3 missed, 6 blocked

Lots of flailing around from end to end but no quality sustained scoring chances, it would seem. I guess you have to consider it a positive to have held the Stars off the scoreboard for one period. Maybe you have to rope-a-dope them for forty because they got home late from the game in St. Paul last night, I dunno. You'd like to see a little more from the Hawks, though. In the six minutes he was dragging knuckles all over the ice, someone should have undressed Jamie Benn's worthless brother Jordie Benn.

Fucking Crawford.

When Scuderi is one of your best players in the game, there is a problem.

Guess the Hawks didn't agree that this was the biggest game of the year. It's feast or famine with these guys, isn't it?

Trading Patrick Sharp within the division was really fucking stupid.

You mean the Sharp that you bitched about last year not doing anything.

So you would have further loaded up a roster with Benn, Seguin, and Spezza.

Final line on Toews for the night:

Shots on goal: 0
Missed shots: 0
Blocked shots: 2
The little things: all of them

I didn't watch the rest of the game after the Sharp goal, so I don't know how bad the team looked, but from what I saw, the better team won. Dallas now has that mix of size, speed, skill, and physicality that makes them the favorite to take it all going away. This is the team that St. Louis wanted to be the last two seasons.

Face it, the Hawks are in a transitional season, and will improve, but if the Dallases of the world play at this level come April, I don't think any team is going to stop them.

Learned 2 things last night.

1. Hawks can't skate with that team.

2. Sharp isn't the same player he was last year. Or even 2 years ago. I guess unlike Kane, Sharp didn't possess the mental toughness to perform while dealing with off ice adversity.

I still fully believe the Stars will fall apart in the playoffs.

They might, you never know how a team's gonna react to the playoffs. But as it stands right now they look like they're on another level than the Hawks. Speed and size, something STL and LA were never able to combine against us.

I don't see Lettin' In and/or Niemi winning 16 playoff games. If they ran into Minnesota or Winnipeg in the first round and got bounced, I wouldn't be surprised one bit. I'd also be very happy: Stars fans are really coppin' an attitude for a team that's missed six of the last seven postseasons. Dipshit Bruins gift them a #1 center and suddenly they're about to record hockey's answer to the Super Bowl Shuffle. Get fucked.

So to the extent that this Hawks roster can be nipped and tucked into adequacy, how do we go about it? I'm happy with Rasmussen and Danault solidifying the bottom center roles; Rasmussen in particular has been a pleasant surprise for some random undrafted Swede.

Mashinter and Garbutt have to go. Garbutt is a tweener who can make the NHL on teams that don't matter (like, say, the 2011-2015 Dallas Stars) but can't hack it on the teams that do. Mashinter doesn't belong in the NHL on any team. He sucks. I don't get why Quenneville insists on these garbage fourth-liners because he "like[s] the element they bring" and then only plays them five minutes a night. Notice that no one on the Stars had so few minutes.

Shaw is kinda not good anymore but he's the kind of player where I'm willing to believe in the hocus-pocus of "chemistry" and "intangibles" and "good dressing room guys." Sometimes you need to hang onto guys like him through good and bad to keep the team from being nothing but a mercenary mishmash: look at the Red Wings' otherwise inscrutable loyalty to mediocrities like Kris Draper and Kirk Maltby. It's tempting to trade his expiring contract, but I suspect he's worth more to us than he would be to anyone else.

Scuderi and Rozsival dressing in the same game and playing together is a war crime. Call up Gustafsson and stop this bullshit once and for all. It's time to bury Rundblad; all he's doing is eating up cap space as a healthy scratch night after night. Take whatever sliver of dead cap space you have to take to waive him, just get him out of here and use the roster spot on someone who can play, and start saving up the old guys' legs.

Desjardins served his purpose but I wouldn't be averse to sending his contract away in a trade, if we can make one.

Good first period. Dominated the first 12-13 minutes, then let up a bit, which gave the Stars an opening to score. Almost let it get tied, but the SH goal kept it in check.
