Guessed you missed the part where I explained that my first glove was a Nellie Fox.... I remember da Mayor setting off the Air Raid warnings in 1959.... I had Sox season tickets in the 70's before JR and Fast Eddie stole the team and moved the games to pay TV... I was there through the Red stripe days and remember going up to Milwaukee to watch Bart Johnson strut into a game oh yes and I still go to more Sox games every year then most of the so called Sox fans on this board go to ... seems like many on this board need to put everyone into a convenient little box.... if you care to discuss the Sox or any MLB team in depth I am all in.... and Yes I do have Cubs season tickets and have for the last 12 years ...right behind home plate..Bears ...been a STH since 1971 in the United Club at the nes Solider... at one point I also had Bulls season tickets and remember going to the first Bulls playoff game in the old Chicago Colosseum.... heck I even had Sting and indoor MISL Horizon tickets..... Spiegs just said Rosenthal is tweeting/reporting the Sox are on the verge of either Gordon or Cespedes. There is no other option.

Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal 2h2 hours ago
Sources: #WhiteSox remain active in outfield market. Gordon, Cespedes among possibilities.

Rosenthal really hasn't said anything like that on Twitter. He just said those guys are still Sox possibilities.

I think it's a no brainer for the Sox to go hard after Gordon.

He improves the defense, it hurts KC, and it gives them another proven threat at the plate.

Will Jerry cough up the cash???

He's just not good enough offensively for what he's going to get. Besides that he plays the second least demanding defensive position on the field. I'd much rather have Cespedes, even if he costs more. He is a force in the mddle of the lineup. Every time he has left a team, that team's offense has collapsed.

Cespedes wants crazy money and he wants 6 years so unless someone blinks, he's going to get alot of cash/years but yes, he can carry a team when he is hot, but he is also streaky as hell and K's quite a bit.

Will be interesting to see how each guys market plays out.

I'd like Cespedes for the Sox. Gordon will be 32 in February while Cespedes turned 30 in October.

With Gordon's age and injuries he seems like a guy who would forget how to play baseball the minute he signs his contract.

The Sox will be introducing him at a press conference on Monday.

Yoenis Cespedes market taking shape. Source: CWS & BAL emerging as leaders for now. LAA & SFG also in the mix with TX monitoring situation.

my thoughts as well

losing the draft pick is a consideration as well but only incidental. Find me the best fit and get him.

by the way, Cespedes is a GG winner in the OF and has played far more MLB games in CF than Heyward

Still, it would be infuriating to watch yet another Sox slugger come in and strike out all the time but never walk. Cespedes is no perfect candidate

The difference is that Swisher, Dunn, and LaRoche were all high OBP guys who failed to get on base once they put on the Sox uniform. Cespedes isn't going to walk. You know that going in and shouldn't expect it. He's more like a Jim Rice type. He's going to drive the ball but he won't walk and he will strike out a lot.

He does have a lot of defensive tools, but he's one of those guys who isn't really polished out there. The type of guy who will kick the ball three times and then nail the guy trying to take the extra base with a laser throw.

The thing about defense with the way the game is currently being played is that it's simultaneously less important and more important than ever. That may sound stupid, but it really isn't. It's more important because the games are low-scoring and games often turn on a single play. A misplayed ball can have a big effect. But in the big picture- and this is the way we've come to measure things via "SABRmetrics"- it's less important than ever because there are more strikeouts than ever, and thus, less chances.

Everywhere Cespedes goes runs are scored and games are won. It is almost uncanny, but aside from that 2nd half with the Red Sox he's never been a part of a bad team.

Here ya go buddy..... I will write the dissenting opinon as many of you do on any Cubs moves

by signing either guy KHAHN is admitting that either the Peavy deal for Avasil (they should have taken Iglesias the SS) or the Melky signing (still owe him 29 mil over the next two years) was a mistake... if the Cubs did this the entire subdivision would be pointing this out..... YOU would also point out that Gordon will be 32 next year and if he gets a 5 year deal for 105 mil you'd be paying for an old guy who's skills should be in decline... or YOU would be sure to mention that Cespedes who will be 30 next year made 10.5 mil last year and he will surely want BIG money somewhere around 6 tears at 140 mil (paying another old declining player)BUT since the Sox are a destination maybe he gives them the Hetward/Zobrist discount and signs for less.

Now the honest unbiased baseball fan view...I'd rather have Upton (younger only 28 next year) and he would probably take 7 years at 147 with an opt out... KC already told Gordon they won't pay him so he is out of the division and I don't think he brings the Upton upside. I think Cespedes is my second choice and like that he has no compensation.... any one of them improves the defense which is sorely needed..... and I would take anyone of them...they are ALL better than what Robin was forced to trot out there game after game last year. Signing any is a GREAT move.
