I grew up watching the Harlem Globetrotter cartoons and reading about their amazing history. I still have the album from the TV Show. Loved him & the Globetrotters....Rest in Peace.

When I was a kid, we saw the old Globetrotters. Meadowlark made a hook shot from half court. Not in the center of the court, but over by the side line. Nothing but net.

Loved the Globetrotters and Meadowlark,...Curly Neal too. I liked their cartoon,...especially when they joined up with Scooby Doo & the gang.

It's sad - but 83 is a full life - and lived through a backstabbing wife. She stabbed the man in his back. WTF!

RIP Meadowlark!

I used to try those hook shots at school after seeing Meadowlark effortlessly pot those suckers. I think my percentage was about .02

I remember the WWOS broadcast from the then-new Omni in Atlanta (RIP). Meadowlark was up in the stands, or a catwalk or something - some ridiculous distance, and tried the hook shot from there, and damned if he didn't almost make it - I believe he hit the rim. Wonder how many tries they edited out?

Both Klotz and Saperstein could have owned the Bulls. Not sure people realize how unpopular hoops was until Jordan arrived!!!!

1979 to 1981 a number of NBA finals and playoff games got "Tape Delayed" status by CBS and shpwn on Late Night, after the news.

As a small boy,I once ordered a book about the Trotters. It had mentioned they were owned by a few businessmen. One was a guy named Gillette out of Chicago. I looked him up in the phone book and called him. I told him I had a neighborhood team that would like to play the Globetrotters. He was very nice and laughed saying they only played teams with older players.

I remember watching those games on tape delay as a kid. I got to know the rosters of a number of Western Conf. teams by watching the tape delayed games on CBS.
It's also the pd. when DePaul basketball was much bigger than the Bulls in Chicago.

If you bet him that more people know the name Skip Dillard as opposed to Ricky Sobers you'd win every time.

If you placed a bet with him about more people knowing the name Skip Dillard rather than Ricky Sobers you'd win every time.
