2008 - Chicago will be using the new Nielson people counter system, which is promised to deliver a much more accurate count on radio ratings.

I thought this would be applicable to a person who has questioned the ratings in the past, yet has no problem of talking them up when it fits the Arguement.

I think the People Meter's thing is delayed and won't be used until early summer now.

... And it's Arbitron that does radio ratings, not Nielsen. But great post other than that

Chicago is delayed until September of 08!
It seems that the Media Rating Council and other groups are concerned about how this will affect their members which include tv and radio stations. Basically, they are scared to death of how the PPM will accurately measure an 18 to 25 year old changing the station after every song?
Hell! If they want to impress me, they should come up with a device to stop them from changing the station every 3 minutes!

Please apply this to my wife, who falls out of the 18 to 25 demo.

and Mike North is scared it will accurately count both his listeners.

Imagine when he leaves or just gets a new contract and someone else has a say in what happens?

When hearing his name discussed in certain circles, he is like the kid named 'mistake'.

Instead of the old inaccurate and suspect diary system of keeping track of what station a selected person listens to. They will wear a clip-on Portable People Meter that will track what stations are on, in a given range.
No wonder some stations are scared shitless!

Here's an overview of how the system works.

http://www.arbitron.com/portable_people_meters/thesystem_ppm.htm

If I understand this right, the station ID announcements may become obsolete once the system is in place since the station will be ID'd by the inaudible transmission recoded by the people meter. Very AI-ish, indeed.

If that is something needs to be turned on, North is dead. As when I listen to him it is almost always when I turn on the radio in the morning, which is about 30 mins, but when I leave and I am awake and realize what the hell I am doing North is gone.
