I don't really get the "burnout" on this film. You guys are aware that you don't have to watch it for 24 straight hours right?

We'd watch it once, and now we dvr it to go through the commercials. Then it goes away for another year.

Yeah  It is like people think they are forced to watch it for 24 hours straight.

I watch it once, and forget about it til the next year.

If I watch it, will you stop posting the horrible gif responses? You're no Walt.

It's a Wonderful Life is barely a Christmas movie. Almost none of it is related to Christmas at all.

I consider it a Christmas movie and I think it adds a bit of background that the ending is set during the Christmas season. But, you could tell the same story with the town saving him on the 4th of July and Harry's homecoming.

Well the bar wouldn't have been as packed as it was on Christmas Eve because I guess that is what people did in the 40s rather than be with family.

It was released at Christmastime, so I think it was intended to be a Christmas movie.

Here are a couple cool facts I read in an article the other day. Goes to show how awesome Donna Reed is -

Quote:
12. THE ROCK THAT BROKE THE WINDOW OF THE GRANVILLE HOUSE WAS ALL REAL.
Image

Though Capra had a stuntman at the ready in order to shoot out the window of the Granville House in a scene that required Donna Reed to throw a rock through it, it was all a waste of money. “Mom threw the rock herself that broke the window in the Granville House,” Owen says. “On the first try.”

Quote:
22. THE FBI SAW THE FILM. THEY DIDN’T LIKE IT.

In 1947, the FBI issued a memo noting the film as a potential “Communist infiltration of the motion picture industry,” citing its “rather obvious attempts to discredit bankers by casting Lionel Barrymore as a ‘Scrooge-type’ so that he would be the most hated man in the picture. This, according to these sources, is a common trick used by Communists.”

Watched Christmas Story twice with the kids...first showing they weren't sure what to make of it...Then they asked to watch it again the next day. They loved it.

It took me years to actually appreciate ACS as a decent Christmas movie...not as good as IAWL or MO34thS or Holiday Inn or Die Hard...but it's up there with Elf and Xmas Vacation.
