Well that too, but I assumed his issues with women and the whole, overwrought Penn State stuff made him sort of toxic to potential national suitors. Not sure how much that all matters in the radio game though.

The SCORE is really the only place that will have him. That's only if the current management remains.

I don't think he would work for someone nationally (especially given the Google results). I think he would build his own brand and have his national syndicate funded by some investor group.

You know how tough that is to do? No. Who's gonna invest in Bernstein? They're rich people with google as well. REALLY SMART PEOPLE.

His ratings are poor, he's a nobody on the national level..this is as dumb as 'is Tiger back' thread. Julie Dicaro has a greater chance as the Penthouse centerfold.

This might be the first time a women has ever hosted a day part show at the SCORE. They had Sweika but I think she just did nights. I wouldn't remember if she ever subbed in the day, but probably not.

He makes a lot of money, and more importantly, his wife makes a lot of money. I'm sure he will find a friend or two who would do it. Is it smart? Probably not. But some people with a lot of money take crazy risks sometimes.

No, it wouldn't be the same if I drunk called her and breathed over the phone during the day.

I think some of you guys grossly overestimate the standards when it comes to national sports radio. Cowherd was probably ESPN's biggest national radio presence and ESPN didn't give a damn about the countless vile things he said for years until he was already on the way out the door for another national job. Bomani Jones successfully trolls more white people in a month than Bernstein does in a year (more hilariously too, but that's neither here nor there), and he also regularly commits the supposed big no-no of discussing politics on his various platforms as well. Paul Finebaum's first notable national appearance was making a fool of himself defending Hank Williams Jr and he was shortly thereafter rewarded with a bigger platform than ever. Doug Gottlieb has has stuck his foot in his mouth on political and racial issues on multiple occasions and is still the main national afternoon drive show for CBS.

I don't disagree that Bernstein is a jackass but I also think his toxic history is not close to the top of the list when it comes to reasons why he hasn't gotten a national gig.

Any chance the Score cuts down on the number of commercials once TB's paper is off the books? I assume not but it would be nice. Those seven minute blocks of ads are zombifying.

Yeah I wasnt sure about the link between his toxicity and the lack of a national job while asserting so, but this definitely helps clarify things. I also think CH is right about his value being sapped now that there's less separation between him and the other score guys, though there's still no doubting him being the most articulate and cogent host at the station. Given his talking talent, being where he's at now just seems like a waste of talent.

Swieca hosted the Score's weekend baseball show for a number of years. She had plenty of daytime work at the station.

You forget about Roe Conn. He was probably one of the highest level talkers in town as well as obscenely paid. He was kicked to the curb and make less than half now. There is no market for Bernsie to make as much or more than he does at the score.

Bernstein has a face for radio.

You guys are all forgetting about WCUB. Where does Bernsie fit there? His current slot will be preempted with more day games. I still think there will be a Cub onslaught into middays where they get a Grace/Moreland/ Sutcliffe/Jody Davis type crew and dump giggles and grimace.

It seems that the big salary is gone in terrestrial radio. Is Terry Boers (500k-ish) the highest paid personality/talent in town? I'm talking strictly local and not national.

Seems too risky to try it on your own. Garry Meier is launching something independent soon with some backing. Bernstein doesn't seem the type to go it alone - if/when it fails, where would the blame lie?

I thought it had been confirmed in the paper that Boers is making $500,000 a year?

Bernstein has not taken off on a national stage because he is perceived to be a marginal talent. Nothing more nothing less. Cowherd is entertaining. A few other guys also. They also inform and they don't constantly denigrate the very medium which is responsible for feeding them. Sports is still the driving force for Cowherd, Jones, and Gottlieb. It stopped being that for Bernstein yrs ago.

I'm not interested in listening to a nerdy guy that goes out of his way to seem cool. That is the problem with sports personalities that focus too much on being a personality and not enough on sports. If you don't have enough life experiences to keep a person interested it falls flat. That's what has happened with Bernstein. Boers could do that because you get the impression that he has had experiences. Bernstein really hasnt. If you have to incessantly talk about your kid to have real world experience, then you really haven't done much.

One thing about Bernsie trying at some point to go national is that he screwed himself. There is a lot of tape of him and later him and Terry just being goofy and lazy as shit. Everything from Ivan Calderon to TB Diddlers to Gay drops. That was what we liked about there show but that is local small time. Then for the future prospects or some other reason he went important radio. Too late though. Even when trying to be important and evolved he steps in it with his boobs and so on.

He is what he is and that is that.

Important radio isn't/wasn't so much the problem as is his lack of self-awareness. You can't shll for your charity while mocking others who do the same (Goats for Cancer, Livestrong) or those who suffer from the affliction (JoePa). You want to talk important matters like CTE? You get on an expert and let them talk. You want to say a player is "Ok to play and medically fine"? "Is killing it in practice"? You stay aware that you can't use your own personal experience to extrapolate expertise, or that surgery isn't as routine as a jigsaw puzzle, or how HIPAA sets boundaries, and that your credibility is tied to your source(s). You want to shill for owners/management? Be careful because it doesn't resonate well with the audience that makes them rich. And speaking of owners/management, you realize that the butter for your bread can be tainted by calling the king (WWL) silly names.

He's the big fish at the CBS (Chicago) pond, and he doesn't take comments like the other CBS entities. Yeah, he's ready to withstand a national spotlight.

Seriously, I think it would be a more interesting show simply because I would challenge bernstein and I wouldn't let him run wild on his pet topics. But I'd have to be hired as an equal and, as has been pointed out by several people in this thread, the next guy ain't gonna be his equal.

I can see the guys that actually do this job saying that it's a profession that requires experience and that JORR is ridiculous to think he (or any of the other pantsless cretins with whom he associates on the Internet) could just walk into the studio and do that job. But that's precisely what's wrong with the Score. The have all these anniversary celebrations and shit but they've forgotten their own history. That's exactly how the station was made. North and Murph are the original pantsless cretins. They weren't reporters or broadcasters. That's what made the station great.
