Why not throw in the "opt out" clause that seems to be all the fashion these days? Then, it won't matter if the contract is 5 years if the player can opt out in three (and you know 99% of the time, they will).

That is only true with a younger player like Heyward. An older player is far less likely to opt out. Also, a player who under-performs over the first few years of his deal, will almost certainly invoke the remaining years and we know if a free agent signs with the Sox, he is almost certain to under-perform.

Yes, but I also figured that Cespedes would get around $25M AAV for 5 years. I think this hurts his case for that. Now I see less money or less years, or both. And Upton slots between those two.

Gordon went to a team that was not a player in the big spending market. It doesn't bring down the price for anyone, because all of the teams with money are still in play.

Except there aren't a billion teams with corner OF needs. This off-season has shown that. If there were, Gordon would have gotten paid handsomely. Teams are standing pat if players don't want to take what they are offering. Teams aren't bidding each other up.

There are plenty of teams that would be upgrading their outfield by signing Upton or Cespedes. Pretty much all of them, actually. Gordon didn't want to leave KC. I'm fairly certain he probably received or would have received better offers than what he accepted.

Plenty of teams that like to spend money left.

Well he showed up and hit grand slams all over the place and it was very exciting. He wasn't the first Cuban of the KW era, but he was definitely the reason the Sox focused so much on getting players from the island. The Sox paid very little for him those first 4 years and was consistently one of the better middle infielders in the game.

He also just looks weird. Almost like an alien. The guy is rail thin but had an above average arm and good power for a SS. His defense improved when he went from CF to SS, which is rare.

This will sound homosexual. Tall Midget, in all my years of watching baseball Alexei had one of the smallest asses I've ever. Dude was a toothpick.

I'm surprised they didn't bring Alexei back especially seeing him sign a 1 yr deal but it's certainly not going to break my heart. I'm not very interested to watch Tyler Saladino play SS but at least it will be for a short time as Tim Anderson should be with the big club sometime during the 2nd half. I hope like hell they don't sign Ian Desmond unless they plan to move him to the OF in a year but even then I still don't think he'll be worth the price.

Fuck Davis, he turned down 150 million.. I hope he has to sign for less.
