This is a prime example of why the future for his show doesn't look good. He's the Alpha Dog but has little true creative sense. You bring on a recurring guest someone that you've openly mocked, why? Is it that he isn't on the "joke" so he'll come on and think you're legit all the while laughing at him? It really is like bringing in another "Bob" from the senior home. Tomsula made $3.5M last year and probably has another year coming. It ain't like he's hurting for dough. Or more abuse, for that matter.
