Good riddance.

It was tacky the way it was done, but no less tacky than the shit he pulled on Chico.

Not to mention all the white coaches on offense too. Ironic that the only two guys that kept their jobs the whole time were men of color. #ThatsWhatISaidThatsWhatISaid!!!

Still one of the best coaches in Bears history. Let that sink in.

He'll be the Cowboys next head coach. I think Rod Marinelli could find a spot for him on the defensive staff.

Garrett has like 4 years left, Marrinelli was the worst coach of all time and Lovie has no interest in anything other than head coach or higher. You think a guy with 20 million in the bank is going to be a linebackers coach or db coach?

A db coach for a db team.

lovie doesn't fit jerry jones' style of puppet regime head coaching. jason garrett does exactly what he tells him to and that's all that matters. the ulcers that johnson and parcells created are still healing. lovie's stubborn attitude wouldn't fly.

i think he will be a head coach again, though. it seems like most people think he got an unfair shake at tampa and will get one more shot. if he fails again, then it's time to call it a career and join espn like all the other fired coaches do.

Why do we hate Lovie Smith again?

He gave us more positive Bears memories than any coach since Ditka by a considerable margin and his time in Chicago will be much better than the current guy.

I do not hate him and defend him to this day. My Rozner hate really built steam from all his unfair columns against Lovie.

In any case, Grid is correct about Chico. I think he got a raw deal.

Not right to hate him, but I think it's fair to say the three straight years out of the playoffs following the Super Bowl followed by the bumblefuck press conference of January 2010 made it hard to like Lovie, happy memories notwithstanding. I respect the job he did more now than I did when he was here, but those years of "Rex is our quarterback" and "we went away from the run because they'll stop that eventually" and the neverending parade of incompetent toadies were hard to deal with. Little did we know the Bears would go on to have five straight years out of the playoffs, including two with a complete idiot.

The media and many fans did not like him because he never gave much in press conferences and such. He was always calm, and that bothers people when they would lose games. #firepassion

I loved his emphasis on winning the turnover battles. The teams were strong on special teams. We seem to have those two advantages every year, and you win a lot of games that way. I guess I preferred being competitive most years than sucking for long periods of time. The players played hard for him, and there was very little controversy.

He wasn't great, but he was definitely good.

Fox is 10x worse than Lovie in press conferences.

Yeah I was worried when I heard his first few pressers. He sounded like an idiot, and seems like a purveyor of misinformation.

I don't understand why so many people get hung up on what coaches say at press conferences and how many temper tantrums they can be seen throwing on TV. What matters is the result on the field and while maybe not great, Lovie generally got very good results.

His biggest problem here was never getting the OC right. But he did at Tampa and look where that got him?

Exactly. Press conference and sideline demeanor is the most irrelevant thing ever.

Hub defending Lovie. I like it. Taking shots at Bucs in the process.

Lovie's the smartest guy in the room. Do a decent job and don't make any friends so they have no qualms about sending you packing with an enormous sack of cash.

That's what happens when George Halas hogs the job.

2nd most in losses. Let that sink in. ;)

Halas and Ditka were the best coaches in Bears history, then a huge drop off to Lovie, who couldn't beat winning teams to save his life.

He's so bad ... the Bears beat him twice in the last two seasons - and they sucked!

I felt he got railroaded and deserved another year. His defense was 26th in points against in 2015. That's supposed to be his core competency. That's a fail folks.

Also fell in love with signing his old players, the same shit he did here. When did it ever pay off in either location?

He was the ultimate bumslayer too. Wasn't he considerably under .500 vs teams with winning records ?

I could give a rat's ass how these guys are in press conferences too btw. Most all coaches are either lame or surly towards local media, and then polished and a media darling for the national media. It is what it is. Who gives a fuck.

Sports is a results oriented business. If Fox doesn't have these guys improving and in the playoffs in a year or two, he should be shown the door also.

I still don't understand the love affair for Adam Gase. Some of his play calling was atrocious. Or were those Fox's calls? Kind of the Lovie vs. Chico thing all over again eh? When the defense was balling, it was Lovie's defense - when they lost - it was hung around Chico's neck. LOL...

In 2010, after the Bears overpaid for Peppers, etc. etc. The Bears defense was balling again. Chico's defense was #1 in the league.

The NFL doesn't lend itself to generating good results at the pace you seem to be holding coaches to. By that logic the Giants should have fired Coughlin before the second Superbowl win and you might have put Belichek on the hot seat somewhere between 2003 and 2014. Good coaches.deserve to stick around through bad draft picks they weren't responsible for and season ending injuries over which they have no control. Was it time to fire Lovie in Chicago? Probably. In Tampa? No way.

I hate movie because he's an arrogant dumbass, Devin Hester is the biggest reason the Loser Lovie hung on so long. Bad coach, worse talent evaluater and running Riviera out of town pissed me off.. Lovie fired every O.C. for almost a decade to save his stupid ass... He reminds me of Jeff Fischer another pretender that shouldn't have a job.

the year they were 10-6 was a fine example of that. cupcake schedule and the few good teams they played against they couldn't win.

Agreed... The one thing I did like about Lovie was his disdain for the media. I will forever hate Lovie and Grossman.

Being a dick to the media has never worked out well for anyone. It shouldn't be difficult for people to treat others with respect and dignity, two things that are sorely lacking in todays society.
