A friend of mine was going through some old stuff in his mom's basement. He found a two page article from when his brother was the quarterback at Bloom back in the 70s in the Chicago Heights Star written by... none other than Terry Boers.

I know a lot of people love Terry. I have found him occasionally entertaining. However, he has been the second best talker in whatever booth he has sat in his Score career

Ok. That makes sense. So he's gonna take advantage of his SCORE medical benefits before he officially retires from the SCORE. But he'll be done after Super Bowl week from all of his indications.

I saw him in the Yorktown mall a couple years ago and before I realized it was him my first thought was "that guy could play a creepy child molester in a movie".
I know it's just old age and massive weight loss but he almost looks like a Hollywood starlet that's had way too much plastic surgery.

Terry dropped another hint that he's about to retire. We've been speculating for a year that it will be after the Super Bowl. As Terry has hinted at that.

So, it's clear he's not going to officially say that he's gonna retire. Maybe not until his last week. That's typical Terry style. He's never been the type that wants the attention. Nor would anybody really want to celebrate him.

But this is CSFMB. So we have to do it.

Give your favorite Terry moments. We only have about 6 more weeks of him. Less than that since he's taking off for the holidays.

Who is going to be the resident immature pervert making odd sounds and saying "Yep, that's what my guy says too" ? This will be a crushing loss for the score.

Boers was by far the best entertainer on the score. His stuff never appeared to be forced or a part of a bit.

I will never forget the time the guy called up ranting about the price of White Sox tickets. Some guy stated how he has five kids and works hard to support them. As such the price of Sox tickets were simply outside of his budget. He also stated that he had way too many callouses, due to all the hard work that he does with his hands. Boers responded that by fathering five kids, the guy didn't really have enough callouses. That was classic Terry Boers.

That was his role. He was never meant to be the best talker in the pairing. He made those he was paired with better.

Mac nor Bernsie would be as good as they have been without Terry riding shotgun with them.

Terry = Scottie Pippen.

No shame in that.

He was more so Mac's equal than he was Bernsie's though. Actually in the early yrs of the score Mac shared time with Hanley and Boers was the one constant in the pairing. Hanley and Mac alternated as I remember and Boers was the driver of the show.

I may be wrong about this but I know there was some alternating of the pairings back then.

The original pairing was Mac and Hanley (the show's theme song was to the tune of Thee Addams' Family theme song - "Mac-Neal and Han-a-ley do do dum dum *snap* *snap*). I think the intent was for McNeil and Boers all along but they had to wait for Boers' contract with the Sun-Times to expire before he could start on WSCR.

Bob Love was the best man at my funeral.

More about the caller than Terry, but it is such a good call.

I feel Bernsie's best work at The Score was when he was solo. I thought when TB became his partner DB's work went south.

Also he's the highest paid worker at WSCR. surely they expected more out of TB than to sit in his basement with his pants around his ankles being Danny's yes man.

Mac was the constant with Boers and Hanley alternating. I always felt like it was an experiment to see which had the better chemistry with McNeil. And Dan always drove the show.

My favorite Terry Boers moment was me recalling for him on the air how good Jim McMahon was back in the day, when both he and Bernstein at the time were professing that Jay Cutler is the best. I brought up the "Miracle in Minnesota" game for him, when a hurt McMahon came off the bench to lead a come from behind victory with three TD passes, the first one coming on the first play he was in to Willy Gault for 70 yards.

My retort left Boers speechless, which is hard to do. After that, I never head from either of them that Jay Cutler is the best all-time Bears quarterback.

I remember I walked past Terry on the street and said, "hey Boers". He just kept walking and didn't turn. A great man.

He was still rendered speechless by Dignified Rube's breathtaking Jim McMahon argument.

Terry is the last remaining gem at the score and when he's gone its going to be very hard to listen.

The score is dying a slow painful death and it's hard to watch happen.

As an aside, I do find M&H interesting radio but for the life of me I don't know why. Mully is terrible. He screams and can't ask questions and Hanley is just... well he's like that headache you take an asprin for but it doesn't exactly go away but it;s tolerable to the extent that you really don't notice it except for those couple points in the day where you say shit I've got a headache.

Terry wasn't good looking when he was younger, either. I don't know how he ever felt comfortable making fun of other's looks.
