I thought they got progressively better as they got darker.

The first 2 were pretty terrible, IMO.
Yup.

They also got a lot better after the first one. The scope and scale gets so much bigger.
I meant the special effects got a lot better after the first one.

Like the books, they were designed to become more adult-oriented as they went along so the kids reading them as they grew up would have more age-appropriate material to the point that the final movies were adult films, well, not adult films.

A few of the libraries in my area continue to struggle with that awkward wording. "Adult Book Club on Tuesdays"

Are you planning on inviting Boyd and Mrs. Boyd as the other couple?

I'm not sure they're that open-minded.

My eyes may have been a little watery after watching Marley & Me. My daughters were bawling and my son was fighting back the tears.

they've entered into "consistently watchable" when they're played all day long on ABC Family (Freeform, Freeform). But I rank them as such:

8. "Deathly Hallows Pt. 1" - so much filler, not much killer. there's an hour and a half that could've been cut and without the cash grab, just had a solid 3 hour film mixed with Pt. 2. waste of a "film".
7. "Goblet of Fire" - watchable but missing so much context from the book, it just goes through the motions. not very thrilling. just there.
6. "Sorcerer's Stone" - slight forgiveness for trying to set the tone but it was competing with LOTR which was in a different league. definitely a kids movie, but the book was enjoyable as an adult. no reason the movie couldn't be.
5. "Chamber of Secrets" - a step in the right direction, and kenneth brannagh brings legitimacy to everything.
4. "Deathly Hallows Pt. 2" - essentially one big battle movie, points off for the blood (totally unnecessary) and Potter ultimately should have died. his kid looks like a little brat. best part was snape's memories.
3. "Order of the Phoenix" - fixed the context problem in "Goblet" and put the series back on track. umbridge was well cast.
2. "Prisoner of Azkaban" - the first movie that felt like it was starting to take itself seriously. Raised the stakes, had more powerful character growth.
1. "Half-Blood Prince" - this was the one that got it all completely right. enough wizardry to appease the fanboys and girls, and the most character development. the scenes between harry and dumbledore were outstanding and it felt like the HP version of "empire strikes back".

As far as I know, I am seem to be the only person that ranks Moonraker as their favorite Bond movie.

It's a sentimental favorite of mine to be sure. Young Dr. Ken found the space stuff very cool on the ABC Sunday Night Movie of the Week.

Floating sex is always a fine goal to instill in a young man as a life pursuit.

And members of Floating Sex. I think they opened for The Red Hot Chili Peppers at some point.

I've never seen Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

The last couple years I have watched a LOT of Hallmark Channel holiday movies, and I don't even like the holidays.
