I think Samuel Smith is damn good. Plenty of other stout options but SS is solid.

Had lunch in Vermont today at a place with Hill Farmstead Society and Solitude #5 Imperial IPA and Conduct of Life Pale Ale on tap.

Both of these beers are absolutely fantastic. The Pale Ale was surprisingly full-bodied--fruity, yeasty, piney and buttery all at once. The Imperial IPA was even better, ranking among the best IPAs I've ever had. I've also recently sampled a few beers by Triliium and have revisited Wormtown. Hill Farmstead easily surpasses both of those excellent breweries.

I think Hill Farmstead is the best brewery in the country. Glad you were able to try some of their stuff TM.

A lot of those breweries out east just shit gold. I've had a few from HF, and all were amazing.

I think Hill Farmstead beats all of them on sheer variety. I could see someone preferring one or more of Tree House, Trillium, New England, and Lawson's for hoppy stuff (though I don't think I do), but none of them compares to HF when it comes to saisons and barrel aged beers.

Hopslam will be available in cans this year.

Bitches Bank is all over the Chicago Beer Exchange on FB. (It's similar to Abraxas from what I've heard.)

Same for Claire the thirsty from Haymarket Pub. That is a growler pour there - people love it.

Came out to KC for the long weekend via Amtrak and during a stopover in St. Louis found a great brewery/distillery called Square One. Pulled pork used their IPA in its sauce and I had their Hopsky which was a hoppy whisky. Did the Boulevard Brewery tour today and tried their new coffee porter called Early Riser among others...4 bucks for a flight of 4 plus free of their unmarketed stuff. Lunch at Jack Stack's and dinner at Arthur Bryant's are concluding a great trip. (WW I and Negro League Museums were neat too). Big fan of Boulevard after this weekend.

On the way to Arthur Bryant's I ran across a micro brewery called Double Shift...they had a great German style roggenbeir that used Hefeweizen yeast...lucky find, just like the Square One in St. Louis.

We did the AB tour in St Louis last time and it was worth the hour. Neat tour and the restaurant there was pretty good.

Wanted to do Boulevard but ran out of time.

i tried sour beer for the first time...it was basically like drinking vinegar. it was called wild sour red, and it supposedly had these nice sounding flavors but all i could taste...was the sour. just too much.

Some sours are aight. Some are just like you described, though. I'm not a huge fan, but a few ounces every now and then is okay. Though I'm trying to take a couple months off drinking, so I should high tail it outta this thread!

I had an Evil Squirrel Brown Ale by Zumbeer in Waukegan...I don't normally like brown ales, but I got it in a grab bag and gave it a shot.

It was actually pretty good

Also had a 4Hands Chocolate Milk Stout, which was absolutely terrific.
