That stinks.

Someone mentioned they had not seen Die Hard 1 or 2, but saw 3. They need to rectify that post-haste! Hans Gruber is one of the best villains ever. And Paul Gleason (RIP) also had some great lines ("we're going to need some more FBI guys...").

He was an exceptional thief, Mr. Jaw Breaker.

That was RPB with the lack of Die Hard viewing. He should definitely see #1. I thought the second movie was fucking terrible.

This is very sad. He was great in every role he ever played.

I particularly loved him in Ang Lee's version of Sense and Sensibility (1995), which remains by far the best adaptation of a Jane Austen novel. Terrific movie.

It was me. I watched Die Hard 1 and 2 over Christmas/NY break. William Sadler, the actor who played Colonel Stewart in DH2 better have life insurance.

The inclusion of John Amos makes this an impossibility.

Get out of the cold Frank, its turning your mind into mush.

1 was amazing. 2 was very good. 3 sucked but was barely watchable I guess. 4, no.

No.

3,1,2

That's the only acceptable order. Any of the ones after 3 can just be forgotten.

Anyone who puts 3 in the same class as 1 let alone ahead of one is a certified idiot who shouldn't be allowed to vote or cross the street without a helper.

Its a bad movie. Watchable, but bad. So at least its better than #4 cause that one was unwatchable.

It also retroactively took away from the previous 2 movies in that we find Bruce Willis at the start of #3 to be a disgraced down in the dumps washed up cop with his marriage on the rocks (or was it over at that point, don't remember). Here is a guy who is a national hero, a guy who thwarted 2 terrorist attacks and then a few years later his life is crap? So much for the happy ending of #2.

Die Hard = 92% on Rotten Tomato
Die Hard 2 = 69%
Die hard 3 = 50%

That pretty much sums it up right there. Great movie, Good movie, bad but watchable movie.

I remember DH2 caught a lot of criticism for the scene where the Colonel brings down the plane by switching the telematics. I doubt we will see another scene like that in today's climate, but who knows.

I don't remember any backlash for that, but yea, nowadays that scene wouldn't happen. I think you could go one further and say that a movie about a terrorist attack at an airport wouldn't be released these days.

Nice tribute to Alan Rickman by Daniel Radcliffe:
Daniel Radcliffe wrote:
Alan Rickman is undoubtedly one of the greatest actors I will ever work with. He is also, one of the loyalest and most supportive people I've ever met in the film industry. He was so encouraging of me both on set and in the years post-Potter. I'm pretty sure he came and saw everything I ever did on stage both in London and New York. He didn't have to do that. I know other people who've been friends with him for much much longer than I have and they all say "if you call Alan, it doesn't matter where in the world he is or how busy he is with what he's doing, he'll get back to you within a day".

People create perceptions of actors based on the parts they played so it might surprise some people to learn that contrary to some of the sterner(or downright scary) characters he played, Alan was extremely kind, generous, self-deprecating and funny. And certain things obviously became even funnier when delivered in his unmistakable double-bass.

As an actor he was one of the first of the adults on Potter to treat me like a peer rather than a child. Working with him at such a formative age was incredibly important and I will carry the lessons he taught me for the rest of my life and career. Film sets and theatre stages are all far poorer for the loss of this great actor and man.
