The Bernstein Brief: WSCR At Cubs Convention Feels Surreal

By Dan Bernstein–
CBSChicago.com senior columnist

(CBS) I guess I’ll finally believe it when I’m sitting there Friday afternoon, even after hearing all the on-air promos.

After nearly a quarter-century of being on the outside of Cubs business, 670 The Score is broadcasting live all weekend from the Sheraton in Chicago as part of the 31st annual Cubs Convention, part of assuming the new role of flagship station for the team’s games.

We’ll be right in the middle of it, amid the players, former players, coaches, executives, blue-clad autograph-seekers from Peoria, Ronnie Woo-Woo and some seriously high expectations for this year’s team.

The 97 wins and a year-ahead-of-schedule NLCS trip in 2015 will do that, and the additions of Jason Heyward, John Lackey and Ben Zobrist alongside a strong core provide reasonable hope that there are more busy Octobers to come. This isn’t the typical Cubs January, anymore, either — many of those of the past were more just mawkish sentimentality and self-aware wallowing than anything else, warding off winter with hope of spring.

It’s different now. This may be the best team in baseball and is undoubtedly positioned to be one of the elites for an extended period of time.

And WSCR is there. We have all the games. Unreal.

Said it well before, during and after.

Dont want Dan Bernstein to have anything to do with the Chicago Cubs...even just as a fan.

Once again, DB OFFICIALLY a Sox fan until further notice,

Sox nation will get 4 chances to rid themselves again of his stank during the Bernstein Cup. Split the 4 and you keep him!

Sorry Pal. He's firmly on your bandwagon now.

He isn't just on the bandwagon, he is riding shotgun.

While I agree with a lot of what he wrote, I can't stand the asshole, so I don't want him rooting for the Cubs. I understand why the station wants to get listeners excited about the upcoming season and committed to listening to the games broadcast on the station, but I don't want that pencil-necked geek to have any part in Cubs broadcasts EVER. No pre or postgame coverage, nothing.

Still a Sox fan. Just smart enough to jump on the bandwagon.
