Bernstein mentioned that Gordon could have games like Curry but no one has ever been as consistently dominant like that.

Yeah, that's stupid as hell, unless you want to go down the list of guys like Flip Murray, Sleepy Floyd, etc who had brief stretches like that. Guessing Bernstein doesn't watch much non-Bulls basketball if that's the comp he thought of.

After carrying the Bulls to the playoffs with DJ Augustine as the best scorer Noah injured his knee and played the series on 1 leg. Of course they don't know this.

Does bernstein even know who Calvin Murphy is? I doubt it. Shit, I think Tiny Archibald led the league in scoring and assists one season.
Um, Calvin Murphy has 10 3 pointers made in his career out of 72 attempts.

Or is there a different Calvin Murphy?

Come on, Rick. There was no three point shot until the last couple years of Murphy's career and the game was played differently anyway. The object used to be to shoot from as close as possible.

I was half listening BUT all he really said is that Gordon had a brief-ish stretch at one point (how long I don't recall .. a few months maybe?) where his play and contribution were somewhat similar, with deference given to his size. He was not, on any level, trying to directly compare the two, nor was he trying to put Gordon in any favorable light with respect to his career.

You really have a natural bernstein defense reflex, don't you? If he wasn't comparing him, why the fuck did he bring him up? That was the only guy he could think of because he doesn't know shit and should shut the fuck up about basketball altogether.

But that's part of the reason why you have to admit that we have no idea if Pistol Pete could have replicated what Curry is doing. At best, it's an educated guess. Really, it's a shot in the dark. Way too many variables have changed between when the two played. Given that, there's never been a very similar player to Curry before. He's revolutionizing the game the way guys like Wilt, Magic, and Jordan did.

Better dribbler than shooter...duh!

He could dribble, but he could stroke it too, Walt. And there haven't been many guys better from the line.

Yeah, that's stupid as hell, unless you want to go down the list of guys like Flip Murray, Sleepy Floyd, etc who had brief stretches like that. Guessing Bernstein doesn't watch much non-Bulls basketball if that's the comp he thought of.

This. BVaseball as well. That is why he is a stat, metric, list guy. He needs to sound smart without actually watching.

The overwrought anti-goon stump speech about how smart hockey fans should be watching John Scott during the All Star game pushes ones ability to not be made nauseous simply by listening to the radio.

Normal hockey fans don't watch the All Star Game.

I'd say given the 3v3 format there's no harm putting the target at watching the first period and adjusting around the five-minute mark.

That said, I think if someone watches, say, the St Patrick's Day Massacre and doesn't find it, on some level, somewhat compelling, they're probably way too much of a Nancy to be taken seriously about most anything.

Why would smart hockey fans watch this bullshit All-Star Game? I struggle to watch bullshit Olympic hockey.

What's his angle here? that John Scott will be allowed to flourish as a real-ass hockey player and not the goon he must be? or that his presence will show why there must be no goons allowed in hockey? We know, everyone knows. Fighting is at historic lows, LET IT GO, IT'S TAKEN CARE OF.

Oh no ... it will be a possibly final referendum on the goon 'going the way of the dodo' insofar as how people will be 'skating circles around him'. It was a cartoonishly dopey soapbox speech given that it was said in 2016 and not, say 2006.

God's honest truth...I'm going to forget it's even on.

I will watch the skills competition. That usually entertains me...or I'll get drunk.

I did this once for 2004-2015, but let's make like Archie Bell and the Drells and tighten up: 2008 to 2015:

2008:
1. Calgary 70
2. Anaheim 69
3. Vancouver 68
4. Philadelphia 63
5. Columbus 58
6. Chicago 57
7. St. Louis 53
8. Boston 52
9. Dallas 52
10. Edmonton 49
--
29. Los Angeles 22
30. Detroit 21

2015:
1. Columbus 44
2. Anaheim 35
3. Buffalo 33
4. Ottawa 33
5. Pittsburgh 33
6. Winnipeg 32
7. Colorado 31
8. Vancouver 31
9. Washington 31
10. Dallas 30
--
29. Chicago 15
30. Detroit 8

In just seven seasons. well after the New NHL of speed and finesse (which you can argue is over already), we've gone from 70 and 69 fights leading the league to 44 and 35. Six teams had fewer than twenty fighting majors last year; in 2008, no team did. There's still a place for fighting, but it can't be stressed how minimal it is today.

I thought they bounced Scott from the game by having him traded and demoted to the AHL?

They did (and not just demoted but demoted to a team in Newfoundland), but then Donald Fehr got on the blower and now Scott is playing again.

Eh ... if they've got electricity and internet, I suspect that there's quite a few worse places to find oneself than Newfoundland.

Some guy (not Someguy) just called in and tried albeit weakly to make a case for liking Noah. His gist was he was entertained even without having won a championship with Noah. He seemed like he wanted to make a good point but couldn't. Sports is about entertainment and yes you can be entertained watching sports without "all that matters is a championship". On average there are 30 teams or so in every pro league not entertained every year and they should watch the Globetrotters? And during the championship years they had to make fun of Bulls fans being the sweater crowd not knowing anything and so on.

Maywood, for starters...
Using a meme I started?

Some guy (not Someguy) just called in and tried albeit weakly to make a case for liking Noah. His gist was he was entertained even without having won a championship with Noah. He seemed like he wanted to make a good point but couldn't. Sports is about entertainment and yes you can be entertained watching sports without "all that matters is a championship". On average there are 30 teams or so in every pro league not entertained every year and they should watch the Globetrotters? And during the championship years they had to make fun of Bulls fans being the sweater crowd not knowing anything and so on.

That was the 5 minutes I heard today. Turned it off after that call. The guy was trying to make the point that Noah was a member of Bulls teams that were involved in a lot of exciting, fun games and that was entertaining. Dan and Terry turned it into "why are you entertained by someone shooting guns in the air and flayling about?!?!" Which, of course, wasn't what he said.

Dan said he is entertained by players who put "the damn ball in the basket" while competing for a championship. He has said for many years that the Bulls can't compete for a championship. Therefore, Dan hasn't been entertained watching the Bulls since Jordan left. Can you imagine the burden he is under having to watch them for his job?

That's such an absurd viewpoint. And it's probably not even their actual viewpoint. Noah has given me such great joy as a Bulls fan... I'll miss that goofy bastard. Derrick Rose made me care about the NBA again, and Joakim Noah made me enjoy the NBA again. Dude has always given his all. If he's played his last game as a Bull, I hope he gets a proper goodbye.
