Spaulding: I love AC/DC and their songs were influenced by LZ. I just can't stand plant's voice.

Interesting nugget on AC/DC and Zep. I read about half of "Maximum Rock and Roll," an AC/DC biography written by a couple of Aussies, this past summer (suspensions afford me time for such guilty pleasures). When AC/DC cast members were young... they loved LZ's sound, especially Page and the rhythm section, but complained about (paraphrasing) "the lead singer's penchant for screaching, rocking his hips and fawning over himself." I guess Percy has more detractors than the rest of LZ collectively.

I read that AC/DC book...

in hammer of the gods there is a paragraph or two about how Pagey wasn't sure of Plant's ability from previous bands. If I recall correctly, halfway through their first jam Page decided Plant was the guy.

By far the least proficient instrument in the LZ arsenal, but he was the right front man for the right band.

Hendrix & Dylan can't sing worth shit, but that doesn't preclude them from being two of the most important performers of the Rock era.

Percy was 19 when Zeppelin started. Seeing how big they became so fast, he probably thought he was God's gift to music. I doubt I would have been much different at 19 if i were in his shoes. Up until oh maybe 1972, his voice was just as good as the rest of the band. After that...not so much. In 1975 he caught a severe case of pneumonia here in Chicago actually, and his throat still has never fully recovered. If you thought some of Page's playing in the latter tours of Zeppelin was sloppy, check youtube for some really hideous Plant vocals.

Sorry Zederman, but in fact if you pay any attention, Hendrix mixed the genres. Anthrax had been working with P.E. for years before License to Il was released. In addition, with out Faith No More, Mr. Bungle and any of the early '80's hip-hop acts used TONs of rock and metal in their stuff.

anthrax, public enemy, faith no more, rick rubin, beastie boys, slayer, Onyx, Biohazard, Ice-T, hed (pe), and basically the entire Judgement Night soundtrack had a ton to do with the rap/rock thing happening.

kinda wish the entire rap/rock thing never happened.
I never felt that Korn was rap anything....they unfortunately fell into that label.

....and no, I don't mean that I don't like Rush because I can't stand Robert Plant's voice...I hate Getty Lee's (or whoever it is that belts out that crap) voice.

The only thing I'll say about LZ is that they deserve to be mentioned along side the Beatles and Rolling Stones when those conversations about greatest rock bands come up. It's usually Beatles, Stones and then oh yeah Led Zeppelin's good too but they're not considered on the same level. With that, I disagree.

i dont think the stones would be mentioned in the same breath as the beatles or zeppelin if they had disbanded in the early 80s like zeppelin did.

i cant stand rush either.
