He could have lost an NLCS game too.

gotta figure Kyle or Jorge or Kris or Addison has a regression. Statistically one of them will. The 2004/5 in me sees this team falling on hard times this season.

We are talking Schwarber here. This has a Brett Jackson vibe to it.

Brett Jackson was going to be a gold glove CF with 25 SB a season.

Schwarber won't be. :(

I see Schwarber about the same, Jorge better, Bryant about the same, and Addison better.

That being said, the most likely to regress is Schwarber.

I think Addison Russell will have a bit more extra base pop (doubles) and hit for a little bit higher of an average. Soler is going to have a breakout year. (Except when it is chilly)

The *most* likely to regress is Arietta.

He wasn't included in the list of options I replied to.

And yes, 2016 Arrieta will regress to a 2.50 ERA.

Kris concerns me...Kyle does not as much. Just my feel.

I didn't notice this was a new Schwarber thread until now.

When I see the word regression used in this context assume it's a a fancy way of saying "get worse." Schwarber has nothing to really regress back to. He's going to hit some RHP very hard, but will fall on his face against most lefties or a good righty. He also cannot play the field at all. I mean, if anything I'd expect his defense to improve slightly from "worst I have ever seen" to "only falls down 50% of the time the ball is hit to him." But I don't see a mean for Schwarber to regress towards, he's going to be something between Chris Carter and Adam Dunn and so far thats exactly what he's been except he's worse than both defensively.

If you're looking for a true regression candidate, someone who outperformed his own stats and has a lot of fluky luck sprinkled in, it's Bryant. When's the last time an MVP level player struck out as much as he does? Most guys with his contact issues can't stay in the league, let alone be stars. He reminds me of some cross between Melvin Mora and Jorge Cantu with a lot more strikeouts.

I agree with your last thought, as I said above, but Adam Dunn was every bit the butcher Schwarber was in LF last year. C'mon now. I watched my fair share of Reds baseball. Jeremy Giambi was worse than Kyle.

Why automatically assume young guys in season two will struggle? I expect all to improve, I expect Russell to improve the most.

Bryant I think will be OK despite the high strikeouts but Schwarber may end up being a platoon guy only and basically another Adam Dunn, although Dunn in his prime was good for 40+ HRs and 100+ RBI per year for 5 straight years.

Not to shabby at all.

Baseball history is littered with players who've had their best seasons be their rookie year.

Ideally you would hide Schwarber @ first, Bryant has to hit better on the road, its probably not possible to be worse on the road.

Soler is a total wild card. Could be an injury prone guy his whole career or a legit stud. The defense also has to improve as he was brutal last year at everything defensively except his arm.

No. Cantu reached 20/90+ twice in a 8 year career.

Melvin Mora reached 20/90+ once (although he had a 23/104 and a 27/88) in 13 years, and I'm not sure sure that he wasn't juicing.

Bryant did it in his first year.

Wasn't he on the Mitchell report?

Edit: he wasn't. My bad. But I thought he was under a cloud of suspicion.

Bryant had a .378 BApip but Im not sure about judging that anymore. The whole everyone is around .300 thing is way overstated

Im not sure what to glean from BApip

Schwarber can hit any kind of pitch in any location. He's that good. He just needs more experience and once he sees how pitchers like to work him he will become a beast.

Here we go with the Cubs having first ballot HoF around the diamond. "Schwarber is my likely regression candidate, I think he'll settle in as a LHH Pujols. Everyone else will get better though so I don't see Schwarber only amounting to Pujols as a big problem."

Schwarber has quick hands, he turns on heaters inside..Bryant is the guy with a long ass swing. I'm not worried about those guys going forward, other than Soler staying healthy. The guys to worry about is Arrietta and Lester.

America's hitting the weights a little to hard to try to nail that young college chick. It's affecting his brain.

If Schwarber isn't in the MVP conversation this year then I'll be greatly disappointed. With Schwarbs its a matter of how many instead of if.

This dude is a beast.

I'd like to hear why Adam Dunn is a better LF than Kyle. Get back to me on that.
