That ended EXACTLY as anyone and everyone should have wanted.

Eh, was okay. That was some terrible dialogue. Scully looks 40 pounds lighter. It's come a long way since I used to watch it on a B&W TV on Friday nights.

this was my reaction. chris carter is sort of showing again that sometimes he was the weakest link to his own show. and i just am having a hard time buying that mulder would just outright believe some raving far right zealot. mchale isn't a very good actor, and sometimes came off laughably too strong.

I never saw the original show though my friends dragged me to the movie.

I thought it was pretty good though.

I think this is lousy. They had to pay Ducovny a fortune to do this crap.

The second episode was definitely better. Mulder sounds like he filmed the whole thing with hay fever though.

of course the 2nd episode was better. james wong wrote & directed it. chris carter has lost a lot on his...i don't know, slurve?

this is why i wanted the show to come back with monster of the week stuff. really entertaining and worth watching.

enjoyed x-files first time around, at least for a few seasons.

only thing i've heard about the current season is that the dude from Community plays a character based on Adam Curry.

haven't actually watched any of it doh

3 episodes in, it seems the only one who didn't mail it in so far is james wong. the second episode remains the strongest and it was a little disappointing to see darin morgan's episode come off as a wispy first draft. there are some funny moments in "were-monster" and i liked the idea of a monster turning into a man as the device. but it had way too much exposition and not enough backstory on the actual creature and the "why" that would've given the episode much needed depth.

i still am enjoying seeing these characters again and i'm halfway satisfied with the results. but there isn't much effort going into these. it's like they sat around a cafe and chuckled and said "yeah that's good". "founder's mutation" is when i actually felt something genuine though.

This is the part that sticks out to me, I don't recall them attempting anything to make a laugh the first go round. It feels like the directing has taken a lot of twists and turns from bones where they are trying to create drama and comedy at the same time.

That said, I did enjoy the 20 second of scully getting freaky in wereman.... *another scene that would have never happened in the first go round

Some of their best episodes were the comedic ones.

yeah, i don't think turd was an avid watcher if he doesn't recognize there were comical episodes. off the top of my head...

"jose chung's 'from outer space", "humbug", "war of the coprophages" (all also written by darin morgan)
"bad blood"
"small potatoes"

the humor wasn't the issue in "were-monster". it wasn't a fully fleshed out (no pun intended) story. it was half-cooked.

Off to netflix. I was a pretty big fan back in the day but the humor seemed different too me. It could just by I grew old and I suck now ..

Plus The Lone Gunman were pretty much straight comic relief.

I remember them, I just don't think of them as being funny. Perhaps young Turd was way to serious with his x-files.

Turd, watch "Unusual Suspects", it focuses on TLG. It's pretty much their origin story and it has some big laughs. It's never too late!

it seems like glen morgan wanted to tell a heart swelling episode about scully, and chris carter reminded him there needs to be something creepy in the episode because it's "the x-files" and not "the scully files". so he slapped a subplot starring tim armstrong from rancid about trash art becoming homicidal monsters and called it "home again" (was he trying to fuck with us with this title? i totally thought the peacocks were coming back) a la "bart simpson's dracula".

there's enough creepiness to keep one interested, but if you think there will be some payoff by the end, hang yourself now.

"founder's mutation" remains the strongest episode of this lot, and i don't have much faith that the next two episodes will be much better than this one.

i'm pretty much ready for this to be over now. if they want to do this again, and retain some of the original run's giddiness and originality, i suggest carter hire spec writers like they did back then. keep it fresh. it's clear these old writers have nothing left to say, nothing left to offer and their efforts come off as "do i have to do this?".

also, morgan's not a very good director. some of the techniques were more amateur than a full sail student.

Something has happened to David Duchovny's voice. He always sounds like he's got the remnants of a greasy ham sandwich stuck in his throat.

i had no faith after episode 4, but episode 5 restored it a tad. there is a much more interesting storyline, a decent (if not obvious) theme, and an hilarious interlude involving mulder going on a "trip". it's somewhat cheeseball but i got a kick out of it. especially with the weight of the 4th episode, this needed a light touch. the addition of the young agents that totally mirror mulder & scully could have been painful but the actors pull off their characters (especially lauren ambrose). the plot hits close to home with terrorism but i like that it's more about fanaticism than just terrorism. on both sides, not just "muslims". all i've wanted from this reboot is a good hour of my time each week being spent. at least this one was worth it, so out of the 5 hours given up...2.5 have passed well. the finale actually looks intriguing too even though the setup episode (the premiere) was pretty weak.

awesome cameo(s) in this episode too.
