I'd say the fans succeeded, but the embarrassment is minimal. The casual observer will never get it. Agreed the NHL doesn't need any help embarrassing themselves. They can handle that all alone.

Admittedly, I'm not one of you long-time hockey fans...and I don't try to be. I certainly follow it more than any sport since 2010. That's mostly because my son started playing. I can appreciate why long-time fans do not like how the game has evolved, but comparatively speaking...it's the most entertaining professional sport out there. I'll always love the baseball, but the NHL flat out has a best product right now.

Yes, the ASG was cheesy and stupid, but I found it mildly entertaining. It sure as hell beat the Pro Bowl and the MLB HR Derby.

Like I said, NHL fans did it before, no one should be surprised they did it again.

Who are these progressive fans that are trying to embarrass the league because they still have goons and play an ASG? I think that's way over thinking this. I agree with JORR...the fans were able to make a funny...the league kind of panik'd but all turned out just fine. Chicken salad was actually made from chicken shit.

McClure just used it as another opportunity to bash a few of his pet peeves: Goons, Kaner, 3on3...with a few other shots for good measure. Not sure how it came to this...but he has become one bitter, cowardly douchebag.

Judging by the way Bernsie talked about the matter I would say people like him are the progressive types.

Anyone who has been following hockey for more than 15 seconds knows and understands that the NHL needs zero help to make themselves look stupid. Hell, they just signed their knuckle headed Commissioner for like another decade.

And this isn't the first time fan voting has been used to try and hijack the NHL's wishes and intentions. John Scott's "goonery" has virtually nothing to do with this. It's just a move by the league's fan base to make the idiots running the league look stupid. Again.

As much as people like to bash on Bettman...and he certainly deserves quite a bit of the boos...it's still a professional league for an expensive sport played mostly on club levels, by hardly any people south of Minnesota...It's been a terrible viewing experience on television up until only a few years ago, with the advent of HD. Could the league be run better? Absolutely...But it's doing pretty damn well in spite of itself.

I'm not even a hockey fan but the NHL skills competition is more entertaining than the counterparts run by the other sports.

Yeah...but Bernsie and Young Sam and McClure...they're virtually invisible to most NHL fans. Nobody really knows or cares what they say.

Yeah I am saying there are likely people like them around the country though.

If it's doing well in spite of itself, then it is not being run professionally.

It is a little disturbing that they seem to be so disappointed that Kane is innocent and a woman wasn't raped.

What is the origin of the "________ is not your friend." thing? Is that a joke, or do they seriously think that everyone wants to be friends with professional athletes?

Puck Daddy, r/hockey, mostly. People who go on and on about possession metrics and rape culture. Think Jen LC.

Ask Tim Baffoe, he stole it from Gawker like he steals every idea.

I know they're kinda buddy buddy with the those guys...McClure, of all of them, has taken it to new heights and doesn't appear capable of reeling things back into any sort of perspective.

Thanks.

That article seems like a pretty big overreaction.

Performers like to make personal connections with their audience, and most of them like to make money. I don't see what that merits umpteen paragraphs of outrage. I would imagine that most sane people don't really think they're best friends with the performer.

When Sam took over and changed the name to TCI, things changed quickly with the organization...the dark future turned bright...championships came...the Hawks became the best run organization in the NHL. It became more and more difficult to find fault with team...second guessing Bowman has mostly been a losing proposition...the original business model of TBL/TCI needed to be revamped.

McClure was apparently given most of the control of the blog. With the Kane story, McClure has gone completely off his rocker...Did he always have such thin skin? Thus we have had comments turned off for a while now...even though they were never very offensive to begin with. Their online presence is killing their print publication...who'dathunk that?

the shitty product is the killer.

if i had to take a guess and psychoanalyze, i'd say McClure is pissed because the mainstream for NHL is labeling it as NHL fans LOVED that John Scott was there and participated. But, McClure is an elitist shitbag who thinks he's better than everyone, so to be lumped in with the rest of us, he thinks it makes him look ridiculous. REAL FANS PROGRAM in da tree hunnert level type shit.

His world of assumptions just keeps falling apart around him...

In yesterday's game preview McClure highlights the Av's goalie Varlamov

Quote:
But of course, Varlamov is in court for a civil case related to charges of him viciously beating the shit out of his girlfriend, so it will apparently be Pickard tonight.

The link he connected to this incriminating statement leads to this:

Jury backs Varlamov in civil case, awards Avs goalie $126K

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/varlamov-e ... --nhl.html

Turns out the woman beat the shit out of him!

Will Stink acknowledge?

No way. Once it is out in the blog, twitter world or score airwaves and a day is passed there is no need to go back.
