Chicago native Maurice White a jazz and Rock and Roll all time great passed away 2/3/16.

He started as a drummer for fellow Chic town guy Ramsey Lewis before heading up Earth Wind and Fire. He was 74.

I used to read and hear stories about how they'd go into the mountains and make albums. They wanted to make quality music and felt the best way to do it was to get away from everything. It was reflected in their music.

They were still actively touring. I used to work with a guy whose sister was a backup singer in their group.

Apparently he had stopped touring with the rest of the band due to the Parkinson's which he later died of.

Just a lot of joyful music. You can tell they had fun making it. Showed in the final product.

I don't know what question that is actually.

If you are asking me her name I didn't know it. Her son was a teammate of Quentin Richardson at Whitney Young though. Her son was one of the best high school players in the country at the time. Najeeb Echols. He signed with Missouri and ended up transferring to I State. I used to work with uncle who actually was helping raise him while she toured with the group.

His uncle mentioned it to me first and then I later read about it in the Sun-Times. He and his mother have different last names but the Sun Times referenced his mother being a backup singer for Earth Wind &Fire.

I can still remember the UCLA band banging out "fantasy" at one of the Rose Bowl games during the early 90's. Their rotation of songs was deep and they could incorporate many styles into their music. The song Imagination was a song that was played in the house all the tome when I was a toddler.

Even though I could say there's a good chunk of garbage and filler in the EWF catalog, they have no shortage of GEMS. September, Shining Star, In the Stone, Star.....this as good as it gets.

RIP.
