I know Bernstein said you're a stupid meatball if you watch it. Which, of course, means that everybody else at the station takes that position. But I heard it was well done. I'm gonna watch. 8 pm on ESPN.

I remember the video they put out after the Super Bowl. They do it for all Super Bowl teams. I'm sure some of you have it or had it. Remember VHS everybody? I used to watch this video a lot when I was a kid.

I always remember Buddy Ryan being interviewed in this video. I loved his quote. Talking about his thoughts on rushing the QB. Something like...

"If we can't get there with 4, we'll send 5. If we can't get there with 7, we'll send 8. We're not gonna let you set back there and pick us a part."

I thought the same thing. Seeing old Ditka footage and the '85 Bears footage just both look like it was forever ago.

Yep. Seems like an eternity. I was watching some of the 85 Bears games on YouTube. Damn.

I enjoyed this a great deal, very well done. Brought back some great memories from when football was football. The game footage reminded me why I've lost interest in the NFL over the last few years. What a great season. Amazing that 30 years have passed.

Did anyone else notice that "Ralphie" was one of the executive producers?

I missed the first half but felt the same way about seeing old footage. They couldn't do any of that now. Was it Otis that said he'd be playing for free because they'd fine him every week if he played today?

It was either Otis or Dent. Hell, half of the defense would be suspended every week.

Charles Martin should be drawn and quartered.

I remember Wilber Marshall as a kid being a guy that damn near killed people. I don't know if he qualifies as another guy that would play for free in today's league.

Wilber was a scary dude. Probably the best LB of the three that year. He was a beast.

Just grabbed this story, pretty sad from 2010:

http://www.hogshaven.com/2011/3/11/2043599/wilber-marshall-is-not-doing-well-physically-or-financially

The timing of this story couldn't be any more prudent. As the NFL is pushing for 18-games with less money for the players, the story of Wilber Marshall is quite saddening. I suggest listening to the interview in it's entirety (after the jump), but in short, Marshall chose to have a deferred contract instead of receiving a big bonus upfront, and now he's stuck paying the bill on a loan he took out when the Bears decided to stop paying him. Add on top of that he has to pay his own disability and it's pure anger to see a legend like #58 in such dire straights (he filed for bankruptcy in 2002).

Marshall: "I had a guaranteed contract and the Bears were suppose to pay $72,000 for 19 years. They stopped paying after 11. It's crazy. They re-negged on a guaranteed contract...I deferred my signing bonus to help them out. I took out a note lump sum and and they had to keep making payments on the note. They stopped making payments...The thing is, I had to put up collataral for this note. $600K.

According to the doctors I need both knees replace and shoulder. I have spine problems from all the hits, crushing blows from the neck to the tailbone. Carpel tunnel on the arms from the turf. You name it."

Host: "That turf at Soldier Field in the day was concrete with a green rug on it."

So, it appears to be a clear case of Marshall getting taken advantage of. He's got heavy lawyer and medical bills with no assistance from anyone. It certainly doesn't help that his original lawyer in this mess died. Moral of the story: When someone owes you money - take it all upfront.

How can this story get worse? When Marshall filed for disability in 1997, two years after retiring, he was denied care. WTF! He had to sue the NFL and eventually won....11 YEARS LATER.

Nice, I was 8 but he's the guy that has always stuck with me as being the epitome of football tough.

That was great! Loved every minute of it. Such good memories.

The only thing I wish was that Buddy Ryan would have been in better health to have been able to talk and share in it more.

Greatest football team of all time.

I set my DVR to record on ESPN2 from 2-4AM. The thing started at 2:12. I loved it but can anyone tell me what happened after Gary Fencik told the story about the little kid who asked: "Didn't you used to be Gary Fencik?"

I think it was almost over at that point. It was a great special. It would have been interesting to get Ryan's sons in there for a different perspective on those Bears.

I missed the first half hour, turned it on just as they were getting their ass handed to them in San Francisco.

I wish there had been a few more players participating. I was surprised that Thayer wasn't part of it, hopefully CBS didn't preclude him from doing it.

I thought it was great! Made the wife watch it with me since she was 3 years old when they won.

It's about time someone did a documentary about the '85 Bears. I'd like to know a little more about what went on there.

Yea, enough is enough.

The whole thing had nothing we haven't seen before. 90% of the content was already covered in the 85 Bears: America's Game. I turned it off with a half an hour left.
