Despite my griping during mid-January games, I'd rather have the sustained dominance of the Blackhawks than a one-year wonder like the Bears. For one thing, I wasn't even alive for the '85 Bears. All I've been alive and aware for has been missing the playoffs four out of every five years while everyone talks about how great the '85 Bears were. The saddest thing about this neverending worship of the time the Bears won the Super Bowl thirtysome years ago is that the Redskins and Raiders won three Super Bowls thirtysome years ago and their fans/media aren't one-third as annoying about it as ours. The Bears are pathetic.

Post of the Year.

this is why the 30 for 30 doesn't really do much for me, since being here in the past near-15 years--that's all any bears fan talks about. but not even in the past tense. it's as if they keep expecting that mojo to return to each bears team year after year. it's always amusing to me when those bears fans are also sox fans, because they sound exactly like the cub fans that they mock year after year ("this is gonna be the year. super bears super bowl"). for the past 30 years, the bears are pretty much on par with the cardinals.

i don't agree that raiders fans aren't as annoying as bears fans though. i mean, you have seen the black hole right? raiders fans can be quite obnoxious. cowboy and steeler fans probably take the cake, still. but it's definitely true that while that '85 team was one for the ages, it's enough already.

Maybe it has to do with the advent of cable (Dukes of Hazard got triple ratings of Breaking Bad) but I think it's pretty amazing that the Monday night game against the Dolphins it's still to this day the highest rated MNFgame

It seems like everything about the league has completely blown up since then and you would have figured that they would have broken the record at some point

Being one of the worst franchises in sports for the last 10+ years has kind of put Raider fans in their place. (I bought low.) The underground and dispersed nature of Raider Nation -- they're popular everywhere, but never the most popular in their own backyard -- keeps them from having the sort of echo chamber that the Bears enjoy, where Beardom is damn near inescapable for four months a year. I'll take belligerent goofs in pleather bondage gear and gorilla masks over the sheer suffocating ubiquity of DA BEARSE.

I will admit, as a Bears fan myself (though less every year), the Bears fanbase is one of the most meatballish in all of sports.

whereas beardown is inescapable for twelve months a year.

i see what you're saying, but the dress-up thing when they're 2-14 is pretty bad. i've always liked the raiders, love their uni's, and feel as if the NFL is "right" when the raiders are good.

like I said somewhere else, too depressing to watch these guys old and crippled and deranged.

the 85 bears can go away forever and that would be fine by me, but what youngsters don't realize is how big this was in Chicago. At one stretch 85/86 Bearss won 24 of 25 games.

CH, being a youngster, is letting you know he realizes all too well how big it was. and still is. that's his gripe.

If somebody on that team had some new stories, that would be fine. I think we have heard all that bravado umpteen times by now.

Yup. Don't care about stats. Anyone who would take Cutler over McMahon is a moron.

Agreed.

Is there someone here who would take Cutler over McMahon?

Of course, he was probably drunk when he said that.

I love that RFDC and Frank are such homers that the mere thought that someone somewhere might not be creaming his Zubaz over a documentary on the '85 Bears is enough to turn them into querulous pissbabies.

I watched it and thought it was good. Not an overt BEARCE slurpfest by any stretch. Way better than the last 30 for 30 that I saw (the self-aggrandizing piece of shit about the 2006 Rose Bowl).

I saw this yesterday. It was fine.

I thought it was interesting how the defense (looking at Hampton and McMichael) saying without saying that McMahon's recklessness was the reason they didn't repeat in 86.

That said, given my age (almost 37), I don't have the reverence for the 85 Bears that most do. I don't remember watching the Super Bowl per se, but I remember much of the hoopla going on around the season itself. Also, that whole team can go the hell away forever.

This team pisses me off on an annual basis, and like a battered spouse, I keep coming back and watching 16 games a year.

I just want another Super Bowl win, so I can be as meatball-ish as the middle aged fuckers today that love the 85 Bears.

Have only watched half of it so far, but kind of sad to see Buddy having gone down hill so far. Did he have a stroke or something?

It's much of what I've already seen from A Football Life for Singletary, Payton, and Ditka.

Probably ... of the top 10 MNF games the most 'contemporary' one is from 1990.

I didn't get that at all with McMichael he consistently said over the years it was because the quarterback couldn't stay healthy but I mean that your he got hurt on a cheap shot after the play had nothing to do with recklessness

That was all Charles Martin.

Bears can win again (I don't really believe they will), 85 will never go away or be topped.

I feel like the Chicago I knew is gone. The Superfans....they're all dead or in the nursing home now. Fire and passion is extinct. Not just Bearss, but everything. It's sort of like Dan Bernstein's ultimate fantasy.

I was almost 1, when they won the SB, so I remember nothing. What I got out of this 30 for 30, Ditka was an idiot(kinda implied by the defense) and was along for the ride.

I know Dr. Beirnsy said that spinal stuff was crap a couple weeks ago, but if it is helping McMahon, then it is helping him.
