Which team is #ChicagosTeam and which is a tourist attraction with no real fans? You decide.

One of the dumbest posts ever on this board, since the Score has yet to broadcast a single game and broadcasts of Cubs games on radio and TV were sharply up last season and have been superior to those of Sux broadcasts by far.

You never took Econ 101, did you?

Here's Econ 101 for you:

Demand for flop-sox base ball (which was never high and was underpinned by a generation of suburban kids over-impressed by the great fluke of 2005) is plummeting as the Cubs actually become a first-class organization and south-side inbreds become more and more irrelevant and mis-managed. When demand falls faster than supply, price adjusts downwards. This is Jar-Jar Reinsdorf's club. When demand increases faster than supply, price increases. This is the Cubs.

Bring back Ozzie the Clown!

Quote from the Feder article:

"Combined with an 8 percent drop the previous year, it was a key factor cited in the ouster last month of Rod Zimmerman as senior vice president and market manager and Mark Day as vice president and director of sales."

but we'll just ignore that since it ruins your narrative....

Most definitely. WGN radio was paying more than $10 million a year for the Cubs. That means CBS is probably paying at least that if not more.

So, a bump like that paid for roughly half the cost of the deal.

So the Cubs cost WBBM roughly $5.5 million last year!

Whoa, gonna suck when a bean-counter in New York flips XRT to "93-1 The Bro" or something.

After years of declining revenues — including double-digit losses in 2014 — Chicago radio leveled off in 2015.

Income from all sources totaled $376.048 million — down just barely from the previous year’s $376.231 million, according to figures supplied by the major station groups and compiled by the accounting firm of Miller, Kaplan, Arase & Co.

Top biller again was WBBM AM 780/WCFS FM 105.9, with the CBS Radio all-news combo up 11.7 percent, thanks mainly to Chicago Cubs baseball broadcasts. Overall, however, the company’s seven-station group was down 4 percent. Combined with an 8 percent drop the previous year, it was a key factor cited in the ouster last month of Rod Zimmerman as senior vice president and market manager and Mark Day as vice president and director of sales.

CBS Radio’s losers were adult album alternative WXRT FM 93.1 (down 21.3 percent), country WUSN FM 99.5 (down 19.9 percent) and rhythmic Top 40 WBBM FM 96.3 (down 11.7 percent). US 99.5 faced a new competitor, iHeartMedia’s country WEBG FM 95.5, which dropped 57.8 percent from its previous billing as Spanish regional Mexican WNUA.

Overall, iHeartMedia’s six-station group was up 4.4 percent, including urban adult-contemporary WVAZ FM 103.7 (up 22.2 percent), adult contemporary WLIT FM 93.9 (up 15.8 percent), Top 40 WKSC FM 103.5 (up 11.5 percent) and gospel WGRB AM 1390 (up 3.1 percent). Urban contemporary WGCI FM 107.5 declined 4.7 percent.

Hubbard Radio Chicago declined 2.7 percent overall, with classic hits WDRV FM 97.1 down 11.2 percent and adult contemporary WSHE FM 100.3 down 9.8 percent after rebranding last March. But hot adult-contemporary WTMX FM 101.9 remained a strong No. 2 biller in the market, increasing its revenue 3.1 percent.

Without Cubs baseball broadcasts for the first time in decades, Tribune Media news/talk WGN AM 720 declined 16.1 percent, but remained the No. 3 biller. Once again in 2016, the Cubs are on the move, this time switching from WBBM Newsradio to The Score.

Cumulus Media saw dramatic increases at alternative rock WKQX FM 101.1 (up 47.3 percent) and classic hits WLS FM 94.7 (up 26.1 percent). News/talk WLS AM 890 declined 14.7 percent, and classic rock WLUP FM 97.9 was down 1.6 percent. Overall the four-station group rose 12.8 percent.

Reflecting the increased influence of Hispanic media, the two top Spanish stations outpaced the market. Spanish Broadcasting System regional Mexican WLEY FM 107.9 increased 42.2 percent, and Univision Radio regional Mexican WOJO FM 105.1 was up 5.4 percent.

Here is Chicago radio’s cash register for 2015:

Brick posted the chart that went here.

Almost no revenue change for the score after jettisoning The Big Mac salary.

Another victory for the Sox! More radio stations and more rings since 1952.

Well WBBM still broadcast the news on 105.9. I'd imagine if WSCR could carry the Cubs AND run programming on a separate station but count it all together as one station, revenue would go up. 162 games, times ~3 hours per game equals 486 extra hours. That's a lot of hours.

However I'm guessing Tom Ricketts will be very upset if Speigel tries to run a trade deadline show during the Cubs game. He might even call his dad to make them stop if they had the gall to sell advertising for something like that.

From my SOURCES...

Zimmerman was let go as to not FUCK UP the Cubs deal going forward.

He never was a forward thinker, his plan was always to cut costs to make him look better. Thats the Lovie plan in football and understandable if you dont have a stud QB. Well, the Cubs broadcast is a Stud QB and you better air it out now.

Zimmermans control over various arms of CBS showed zero originality and a complete lack of creativity for an industry that needs a kick in the ass.

This doesnt mean I think Mitch or anyone else is the answer, as I admit I have not listened that much lately, but from when I have, I havent really heard a reason to listen more to the station other than "Your official home of the Chicago Cubs"

I assume they will do a or are doing a Cubs weekly show, but who cares. The lists of things that should be and needs to be done t capitalize this deal doesnt seem to be in the realm of the way the Score has been run for quite some time now. here are some simple things I would do....

-Listen all morning and then go to the game with Mully and Hanley (say what you want, it will increase ratings)
-The Fans Show...Have Zach host a weekly show at night and bring in some fans...yes, leary would need to sacrifice the amazing radio he does.
-The Score Suite...I assume they will have a Skybox, but they should have a deal with Budweiser and get section in the Beachers to give away tickets.
-broadcasting from the bleachers....the couch area, not the seats.
-Contests, Contests.....contests!!!! Who will hit the most HR's this week, the furthest HR....the best WHIP!
-Givewaways.....The used Rizzo jockstrap....

Yes, its will be glutinous and complete overkill...but So what. Whats going to happen, you are going to lose the 6 Sox fans that listen to the station,? Hell no, there are no bigger hate listeners than that group....even they will increase the numbers.

Wouldn't give away a jock, and you could slot the fan show in the 10-mid rump slot without sacrificing Leery, but other than that, I'm on board with all this. All these suggestions would make Score people howl. Contact with normies all over the place here.
