I agree with the premise of what you are saying, BF.

They do need to get creative and they do need to do whatever they can to capitalize on the investment. Some good ideas there and I'm sure there are other good ideas. One thing I'd do is invest in Wrigleyville remotes...no shortage of venues.

My only ask is that you remove ZZ from anything. Send him packing with the other washed up hacks. I hear his voice and it's an automatic PTFB.

Love the Mully and Hanley idea. They should have a "Breakfast and a Ballgame" promo about 4 times a season.

The station would have to do a 180 for that to work. Cubs should be good but I don't know that the Score and it's personalities are a draw. There were what, 5 people at the celebration for B&B last time?

Frank will be banned again before baseball season opens in April. JOOR is listening but will never admit it. GD will be in full Cub gear by May 31.

back to your original point, I wonder how much management has demanded Cubs talk during regular shows. I listen to a guy like Mulligan, a south side Irish Sox fan, and even he is full on the Cubbie bandwagon with no questions asked. I was treated to a "Baez projected to hit 27 HR this year" with zero skepticism, other than how they were going to get him the at bats to hit them. It kind of made the "Rizzo Hall of Fame" talk a little easier to gloss over (and I am not exaggerating on that).

There was a point a couple of years ago where the station decided to go all bears all the time. I imagine Score bosses dictated such programming to the hosts. I have no doubt the same thing has happened here but to an even greater degree.

When a guy like Rongey tries to fart rainbows at Sox fans, he is deservedly criticized. I don't get that same feeling from Cubbie fans. You seem to like doing a human centipede imitation when biased media releases its bs.

All I know is I am waiting along with Len Kaspar for Jorge Soler's body to fully mature.

Not that long ago fans and talk show hosts called it being in the bag or under a team's control. Nowadays it has a much more respectable term, synergy.

I hardly listen to The Score as it is. Cubs talk, whether I hate them or not, is not going to make me tune in.

There is only one of us in this thread who is a Cubs fan and has started multiple Hawk/Rongey/DJ/Farmer threads because he "just happened to turn on his TV/Radio and heard somebody say X about the White Sox." It certainly could not be because he is hate listening/watching these Sox broadcasts now could it...

The Tribune would defend itself to the death when they were called for Cubs bias even as the team actually owned the Cubs. LeVineline dismissed out of hand any bias he had in reporting even though he was a paid employee of the Cubs.

I've seen these protestations before. I've already heard them discounted by a guy who was already fired for his corporate schilling in Atlanta.

I imagine that will be difficult for Mulligan. He really loves the Sox like a fan and usually found his way back to the Sox whenever talking baseball or Cubs.

Im not even totally disagreeing, but coming off a 97 win playoff season and some lauded free agent moves is not the time to judge that.

It wasn't that much different coming off a 70+ win season last year.

It was. But you are easily the most optimistic of all CSFMBers about the Bears and Sox. Nothing wrong with that.

Not true about the Sox but yes on the Bears (other than Nas).

It's not MY optimism that is the question though. I'm a fan. The question is whether you like your reporting slanted. I think I have shown through my Hawk and Rongey criticism that I appreciate a more honest style of reporting.

I cant tell if you're even being serious. The Sox could be 15 games under and you'd be telling people they were in the WC hunt.

The internet is nice way to avoid biased reporting. There is always someone out there speaking truth. Just not always the guy on the Team sponsored post game show

So the new numbers posted by Feder have the Score 4th overall and has the assholes in the afternoon in the top 10. Thinking the Cubs are having quite the effect.

From Feder 6/7/15

Cubs baseball broadcasts catapulted CBS Radio sports/talk WSCR AM 670 to the top tier of Chicago radio stations in Nielsen Audio ratings released Tuesday.

The Score moved up from 18th place in March with a 2.5 percent audience share to a tie for ninth in April with a 3.2 share all the way up to fourth in May with a 4.2 share. The latest survey covers the four-week period from April 21 to May 18.

Under a seven-year deal with CBS Radio, Cubs broadcasts shifted to The Score this season after one year on all-news WBBM AM 780. In simulcast combo with WCFS FM 105.9, WBBM Newsradio continued to lead the market in overall share.

White Sox baseball broadcasts have had a less noticeable effect in their first season on WLS AM 890. The Cumulus Media news/talk station tied for 20th place in May with a 2.2 share — identical to its rank and share in March. In April it tied for 21st with a 2.0 share.

Election talk must have been what saved 890's bacon this year. They were down to a 1.2 for a while in 2015, which for a onetime heavy hitter in the market (and I'm just talking about WLS as a talk station, not even the music days) was eye-popping. Losing to gospel as they were, I really thought that station was down for the count.

Imagine if the Cubs were on a radio station that didn't have so many unlikable douchebags working there?

Oh, wait, they were - WGN.

The Score has definitely benefitted from landing Cubs' broadcasts - especially since the big successful turnaround for the franchise.

I still can't believe WGN lost them...

Just remember that WGN under Jimmy DeCastro opted out of the contract and claied they were losing money..... The Cubs went shopping and got an even better deal ( concert availability, cross promotion on all the other local stations and more $$$). The Cubs even went back to WGN and asked them to match before signing the new deal.

I couldn't agree more, IQ. Jimmy de Castro blew that one big time. He was more concerned with Blackhawks, buddies and putting the old WGN band back together that Cubs seemed to be low on the priority list. WGN was foolish for not to at least matching the CBS offer. We agree on this completely.

Loving the Cubs does not necessarily translate to loving the radio personalities on the station that covers the game. B&B are awful and no way will I listen to their show just because The Score now broadcasts the games. I turn the station on when the pregame begins and turn it back to am1000 after the game. Now that Danny Mac is a free agent, should the Score get him back, I would return to listening to whatever show he might get there. I really hope it might involve Mac taking over the afternoon slot. Quite frankly though, I would prefer him going back to am1000 and teaming up with Kap.
