Barry's "Old Sportswriter" bit is absolute comedy gold. If that doesn't tickle your fancy, the boys will do WYC today, and Julie will be doing sports updates in between McRibs.

Tune in.

If I may be negative about this show for a second, they spend way too much time on Bulls basketball. They don't deserve it.

I guess Rongey is thinking this is a tryout to replace Boers. This is his 2nd time with Bernstein in the last few weeks.

Right now he's just a part timer. Then when the Cubs start less shifts for him as there will be no need for night updates on most nights. Not that there is much now anyway with Depaul and Illinois basketball.

Caught a few minutes after work. Danny's mad that the NHL draft is going to be in Chicago. He also made fun of old people who are angry and bitch about everything. Gee Dan, I saw a pic of you from the Super Bowl and you look old as fuck. And last time I checked, you piss and moan about everything except Theo and Lebron. If the shoe fits... That'll be enough for the day

Didn't take Dan for a Maple Leafs fan.

So, uh, did Dan explain why he doesn't want the draft for any good reasons (strain on hotels/traffic, abuse of public space a la the NFL draft, unwarranted tax breaks to WirtzDorf Industries), or did he just sputter out some crap about not wanting "the hockey people" to descend upon Chicago for a weekend?

Caught some earlier on my way home from the gym, and in a conversation about the Bulls brass "getting it" and an organization like the White Sox "not getting it" [being able to accept suckage in return for higher draft picks], Dan decided to bust out a Don Quixote reference, to remind the plebians that he went to Duke, he's more well-read than you are, and thus his opinions on sports exist on a higher plane of intellectual discourse than you can possibly imagine:

Senor wrote:
"...They say it's admirable to go for it. But you know what, Don Quixote always went for it, too, and the windmills weren't real...

Then, in the next breath:

Senor wrote:
I should say that his foes weren't real, they were actually windmills.

So, Dan's own attempt at displaying his literary prowess falls absolutely flat on its face, because he can't even get the metaphor right.

The best part is that he had to have consciously pushed aside other, pedestrian, perfectly-suited references to get to a novel written in 17-century Spain, just because he wanted to make a reference so profound, that the mopes and dopes listening would have to go to the Google Machine to understand what Dan Bernstein said to them, then stand in awe of his Big Brain....and then he fucked it up.

They might be giant dipshits.

I hope he said "Cervantes" with a perfect Castilian lisp, too.

Dan's head almost "literally" exploded when Ranger read that Orlando Sentinel aricle that said "Tebow should have rubbed off more on Cam while at Florida"

If Rongey had the right partner, he wouldn't completely suck as a weekend host. Especially if it was someplace like St. Louis, and not here.

Making a big intellectual reference to the only Spanish novel anyone's ever heard of and then overthinking it and booting it is, yes, Peak Bernstein.

Indeed. Best part was when they were talking about Dan's grey hair, and Rongey said "You know what comes next, right? You're gonna die. Dan's gonna die!". Doesn't sound that funny in print, but man, it was hilarious.

youd think this would be the perfect opportunity for Dan to bank some new stories about his kid. He can take him to all the free events and mingle with the upper echelon hockey people via his access creds. "the look on my boys face when he met ______ and then i was able to explain to him how important he was to the game and, ah! great experience. i couldnt recommend it more."

bleh.

When the events surrounding the NHL draft buy as time on the score as it nears will be the time when Dan tells us how important it is.

He wasn't mad that it was going to be in Chicago, besides a joke that Chicago will find a way to lose money and that they'll shut down city streets for weeks for it. Though, that may have been an emailer.

It was more that no one really cares and why even have a press conference which is fair because seriously who cares about the NHL draft.

I hate Rongey more than if you procreated Larry and Julie DiBernstein but him and Les would be great radio.

The last line he read of the article made me think it was all tongue in cheek. Dunno.

Not a bad show.

Les pulls some pretty nice tail for a guy of his peculiar qualities.

As soon as Dan started using the word "affectation" I knew a Spinal Tap reference was coming. (And he did not disappoint.) I was surprised Rongey has not seen the movie, nor has he seen any of the Godfather films.
