I feel bad for those that didn't experience it because there has been nothing close to it since - not from a Bear fan perspective, but from an NFL fan perspective.

I had near zero interest in this documentary because I've seen everything. But it was quite enjoyable IMO.

You are right Doc. I also love either the revisionists or the too young that break bad on Ditka. He was so huge. Hard to blame a human for getting caught up in it. But make no mistake you can give the players or Buddy all the credit you want. Ditka changed the attitude, motivation and trajectory of the Bears the moment he arrived. And that is why he is beloved.

the 2009 saints were magic for me. i grew up with a team that was known for being losers, and bums. and they won a championship, something i never thought i'd see. that's something that no matter how many times the aints come back, no one can take that away.

i think the bears are one of those organizations that are supposed to be good. the saints never are.

I'm saying that the Bears were a national phenomenon. Probably in a way that wasn't possible before or maybe since.

With the dispersion of national attention and lack of anything being relevant for more than 29 seconds these days, I'm not sure it can be recreated.

Weren't the Bulls an international phenomenon? Jordan's 23 is still one of the highest-selling jerseys, if not the highest, and he hasn't been a Bull for 18 years. Good lord, we're getting to the point where high school graduates were not alive when the Bulls were great.

When I was in elementary school, the Bulls were everything. People played football at recess, but there was no love for the Bears. The Bears just were. In 3rd grade, more kids talked about the 49ers.

I would argue the 90s Cowboys were a national phenomenon.

Aikman was loved by the white girls. Emmitt was loved by everybody. Irvin was loved by crack whores.

Sadder still that they are simply parroting a theme Bernstein uses for the sole purpose of trolling. Just a week ago the Broncos were trying to claim some place in history by comparing themselves to the 85 Bears and most of the team hadn't even been born.

You're right. But they had to win at least 3 championships to match it and no one has since.

Again, I was not alive for the '85 Bears, but I can't imagine anything feeling bigger than the '96/'97/'98 Bulls did. Jordan never rapped about it, but I don't think he had to.

Present day Warriors are getting close, IMO. They have to break Bulls record and win the title again this year to really start to get close to that level though. But the way they play certainly helps them in that regard.

The era they play in hurts, though. Players used to have a mystique due to lack of access. Social media and coverage in general has made that more difficult, not only in sports but in all arenas.

Yeah, that's why they have to really up the ante accomplishment wise. But there's already a distinctly different feel in their games than even LeBron's Heat had. Probably have to go back to Shaq and Kobe Lakers. It's just a different atmosphere. And they have a great chance of winning 4-5 titles or more as a core group with how everyone's structured and the influx of TV money coming.

100% agree -- you can't get back to that era. I can't imagine if the Heat from a few years ago would have played in the 80s/90s... they would have had the same sort of following as the Bulls. Mike Miller would have had his own sandwich at Burger King.

I doubt that. Even the Kobe-Shaq Lakers fell far short of the 90s Bulls.

In terms of elevating the sport for an extended period of time the Bulls may never be beaten by that by any team in any sport.

We'll have to revisit this in a few years but I think you're wrong. This Golden State team is clearly a notch above those Laker teams. If they win 75+ games this year and the title and Curry wins MVP once again it's going to get pretty crazy.
