Not sure what is going to happen but Obama can appoint someone. Then the senate can do whatever the fuck they want. Republicans own the senate now. Right or wrong they have the power. I will now quote Obama from some years ago when the democrats held power. "Elections have consequences."

I should have added that it's purely an homage to the single greatest message board post certainly of my lifetime from Curious Hair On the Occasion of Ernie Banks' Death.

While true, the only affect the Senate should have in practicality is to force Obama to pick a jurist who is viewed as somewhat moderate. If they fight him tooth and nail in a purely political fashion then Obama can certainly make the GOP look bad during the process. Almost a year without a nominee (longer than that in truth given that even a Republican president would have to get his guy through) would be subject to ridicule. Think about the 1st case that splits 4-4. Maybe several. Even worse if they shoot down multiple nominees and then lose the presidential election.

I've been reading here for months that the Republicans have zero chance of winning the White House. So why would anything they do with the Supreme Court nominee matter.

Supreme Court justice Antonin Scalia died today and already the Democratic party is fundraising off his death.

In an email sent out by the Democratic National Committee, supporters are asked to chipping in some money for the coming Supreme Court nomination fight.

The fundraising email reads:

Breaking news from the GOP debate stage:

In tonight's debate, the Republican presidential candidates were asked whether or not President Obama should nominate a new justice to the Supreme Court. They said Congress should block, delay, or otherwise refuse to allow the President to fill this vacancy.

There's no excuse for this, You. It's putting partisan politics above theConstitution and the rule of law, and it's appalling to hear from any public official -- let alone someone who thinks he should be the next President of the United States.

And they're not alone. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell -- who is responsible for scheduling votes in the Senate -- has already said that "this vacancy should not be filled until we have a new President."

But no matter what Mitch McConnell says, President Obama is going to fulfill his constitutional obligation to nominate a successor to fill thevacant seat on the Supreme Court -- and that nominee deserves a fair hearing in the Senate.

Add your name to call on Republicans to follow the Constitution instead of obstructing the confirmation of our next Supreme Court justice:

http://my.democrats.org/Confirm-the-Next-Justice

Thanks,

Democrats

One might think that based upon on what you have posted here about your run ins with the law, that you would find favor with Scalia's rulings regarding the 6th amendment.

I'm sure I'm not the first to make this observation. But Scalia = Paulie from Goodfellas.

It's funny how ignorant you are. Almost to a person, even the most liberal, people that knew him said he was one of the nicest and most charming people you could ever be around. I highly doubt he was a miserable guy.

I think it's funny that you always rail against right wingers, and then often use phrases like "the blacks", "the gays", and "pillow biters". Very progressive of you!

What is the correct nomenclature? Gay people plural is gays. Black people isn't offensive to anyone but you, you are out of your mind if you think I'm typing or saying African Americans. Would I call you European american? Don't be such a sensitive Caller Bob.
