There is nothing like finishing the evening off drinking High Life tallboys at Carol's Pub.

What's the place in Lincoln Square with the big rooftop? The name escapes me. I dug that place, too.

I watched the New England/Kansas City game at Warren's Ale House in Wheaton. $6 pints of Zombie Dust.

That's what Durty Nellies charges for it. They seem to get a keg every other month or so. $6 for 7 oz. is insane.

did that on a NYE one year

It really seems like a vivid dream rather than something I actually experienced. I was there with my wife. My best friend walked in with his cousin. An old friend who is a lesbian was there with her girlfriend. Even the memory of being there is kind of frosted on the edges.

Parker Pie looks like a good place, Zeph. Thanks for the heads up on that.

Redskingreg: I recently hit Three Penny Taproom in Montpelier for the first time--it's a good place to do side-by-side tastings of some of the top beers in the area. The tap list speaks for itself: http://www.threepennytaproom.com/taplist/.

I love Three Penny and actually prefer it to the 3 main bars in Waterbury, especially for food. I really love their wings. Also it's not on the taplist, but they're one of the few Vermont bars to get bottles of Backacre's Sour Golden, which is a lesser known Vermont brew I'd definitely recommend if you're into sour beers at all. They also sometimes have Cantillon available.

Something about that space, whatever business is there, sucks. Could be the Curse of Bar Louie. Last biz there was a Bar Louie and all Bar Louie's are worse than the most bro'd out wrigley joint.

Went to Only Child Brewing in Gurnee today. Really enjoyed their Double IPA and Pale Ale.

5 minutes from home and a neat little tap room...I'm looking forward to going back.

I'm on to this one, more quaffable than the prior stouts. could be i'm just a couple stouts + Kessler shots in makes it seem soda pop-ish; or the bubbly carbonated appearance vs the bible-black, squid-ink pasta appearance of the CEO Stout:

I've had that one in the cart a time or two and never pulled the trigger on actually taking it home. Usually
opting for Founder's Breakfast Stout over the imposing sounding 'Imperial Stout'. Larry Bell's almost undrinkable without
cellaring/aging 'Expedition Stout' (A "Russian Imperial Stout") leaving me scarred and skeered of "Imperial Stouts".

Northwind's sounds like a drinkable off the shelf take on the Imperial Stout:

Don't remember. We sampled eight. The only one I liked, and I use that term loosely, was the asparagus beer.

I recently tried the Lambo Door DIPA by Grimm Brewery out of Brooklyn. This beer has an excellent reputation--as its 95 rating on beeradvocate.com suggests--but I was thoroughly unimpressed with it. The first couple of sips were great--with a flavor and mouth feel similar to some of the great Hill Farmstead brews I've tried--but it suffers from boozy notes that become overwhelming as you drink it. On a 1-5 scale, this beer doesn't merit anything more than a 2.5 in my opinion.

I also recently endured a pint of Soul Style Tangerine IPA by Green Flash. Just awful. This beer tastes like an orange rind mixed with battery acid.

Have any of you enjoyed anything by Green Flash? I've been extremely disappointed by the two offerings I've sampled from them.

Tangerine in beer is the new thing, but it doesn't really work. I tried the New Belgium Citradelic, and I thought it was awful. I took a couple sips, and let the wife finish it.
