Sox should've kept Semien in any case.

Why? So they could have another infielder incapable of playing the infield?

At least part of Semien's defensive struggles were because the Sox moved him from second, to short, to 3rd, to OF, to short, to third... on and on. Guy never had a position because the Sox never bothered to give him one. Hardly an isolated case either when it comes to the Sox, plenty of Sox MIF from Carlos Sanchez to Alexei Ramirez dont have a position when they break into the majors. As he spent more time at short he got better.

He can also hit. 15 HR, .260 avg and .310 OBP, Semien was better offensively in his first full year of MLB time than the entire Sox IF combined (minus Abreu) last year. You cannot tell me the Sox wouldn't love to have Semien back after trading 5 top 30 prospects, a few of them very close to contributing in the majors, for two infielders and still going into 2016 with the presumptive starter at SS being Tyler Saladino.

He can hit, if he doesn't improve defensively this year he's going to moved to a different position.. The Sox fucked up in that deal..he's better than Saladino.

Desmond has a net positive defensive rating of 30 over his career (per fangraphs). He has nice range, and a strong arm. He's a solid defender, no question. Error totals can be very misleading, because he's also making a lot of plays that save runs. I'm talking in the context of his career, now. He did have a down year with the glove last season (particularly in the first half).

He can't hit enough to play an outfield corner. Maybe he can play center. Probably not though.

I still don't get this, lets use a knife to do this. I take a spoon and scoop it out.

You can slice your hand open carving the avocado in halves I guess, but getting the pit out is as easy as it gets. What was Micah really doing?

Trying to kill himself when he looked up and realized he would be playing for the south-side inbreds.

He was traded to Dodgers this offseason.

You just can't help some of the posters on this board, as much as you might want to try.

He wont be a super sub and he wont play for Charlotte; so if he beats Saladino for the starting SS spot he stays, if not he goes.

Pretty good move by Hahn. Barring a horrific Spring, he will most likely be the starting SS with Saladino going to the utility role.

If Rollins ends up hitting like last year, though, he will probably be released by June.

Not to be negative for no reason, but this makes no sense. Rollins has been on the decline for several years. At 37, it is HIGHLY unlikely we are going to see a reversal of this trend. What was the point of the signing? Saladino may not hit a lot, but he will hit at least as well as Rollins will at this point and play a better SS.

No idea why anyone would think this is a bad move.

There is no risk in it at all. Maybe he rebounds a little and you get a guy to play SS while you wait on Anderson. If he does not rebound then you move along and are not hurt by it at all.

These are always moves that are worth trying.

It's a minor league contract.

Disagree, makes perfect sense if thats your "PLAN" sign guys and hope they have that last bit of HGH in them.

Now, if I really believed he was signed just as a throwaway and if he makes it, great, if not...who cares, then I would even agree with it further, but there is no doubt Kenneth has him in his plans.

Wonder if GarPaxHahn had any say in that one?

A lot of jealous Cub fans worried about Jimmy Rollins. Probably because they have a .300 OBP guy at short. When will Gleyber Torres be ready?????

And as we all know, you cannot win a World Series with a slick fielding, .300 OBP shortstop.

Fuck.
