Yeah...that is some crazy talk GoldenJet.

Anyway, Aramis' Cubs career (and his 96 games with PIT in 2003):

9 Years .293/.354/.524 for a .878 OPS and a 124 OPS+.

281 2B, 251 HR, 873 RBI, 1351 H all in 1220 games.

Even for the era, those numbers are really good.

And he played solid defense at third.

Bryant will be better than Ramirez. Maybe not as long of a career, but he'll be top 5 MVP vote getter multiple times.

Plus he was one of the few who could seem to hit good pitching and didn't bumslay. When he dogged it it drove me nuts though.

I think there are maybe two or three third basemen with 2500 hits and 400 homers and Schmidt isn't one of them. But I'm "trolling" when I call the expectations unrealistic.

Its the steroid era thing. Im sure if GJ thought it out and added the numbers he'd have a more reasonable expectation.

I loved ARAM, Fuck Brenly... He picked out the best hitter in a cubs uni since Dawson n grinded that axe.. I've never been a fan of BB or Len or this new douche Deshaies. Of course ya want a guy to sprint to first every time, but most guys don't.. He made up for it with his bat n he was a solid glove.

  Now Sox fans are getting in on the action. Chipper Jones was a top 5 MVP guy twice. Eddie Matthews twice. Beltre twice. Nettles once. Aramis Ramirez never.

Crap...I just wrote a post and it didn't show up.

Yeah...I'll walk things back a bit. I gave Ramirez a lot of credit, but he deserves more. If he'd have hit more than 400 HRs he'd be HOF material.

I agree, he could hit just about anybody...and hit them hard. I'd love if Bryant could be the hitter Ramirez was. He's probably going to hit more HR's, barring injury...but overall, ARam will likely go down as a better hitter.

I'd rather not project things out for a player...the likelihood of reaching the longevity and productivity of the great and near great players is just so tough to do.

I still have that damn Prior jersey hanging in the closet...the second coming of Tom Seaver.

Aramis Ramirez is already a HoF candidate.

Let me clarify: I think he falls just short. But he will be on the ballot for many years because he will get enough votes to be 'in the running,'

Bryant should be close to a HOF'er. Likely will miss it because Cubs killed two of his years stuck in the minors.

Which is it, Steve? Do you think Bryant will be in the HOF? Because if you think He will be a legit MVP candidate in multiple seasons, and will make several All Star teams, you are saying that you expect Him to be putting up HOF type numbers throughout his career.

I don't agree.

If you look at Schmidt, not comparing, just looking at his numbers...his career didn't take off until he was 24. These guys grow into their bodies and should really be most productive between 23/25 and 34/35 or so...peaking around 30/31. With better diet and training programs, prime years should expand up...even without HGH and steroids.

Two points

#1 There is no real reward for being the most realistic fan

#2 Its ok to hope for guys to be awesome. I hope Bryant turns into the new Pujols. Doesnt mean Ill be upset if he's Troy Glaus or Vinny Castilla

There's no reward for making ridiculous pronouncements either unless you want people to think you're batshit crazy.

Yea, but I dont think anyone acts like there is

Its not you or just here. The "Im the most realistic fan you've ever SEEN" attitude is very common. I fall victim to it myself. When you back away and think about it though, it doesnt really matter. I could even argue its better to jump in with both feet. It's kinda what being a fan(atic) is all about.

Touche.

He did have a nice comeback to his old form though. It'll be interesting to see what he does this year.

There's a whole lot of ground between being an optimist and expecting a result that has only occurred a couple times in history. I'm not taking pride in being a "realist". I just think it's silly to have some crazy expectation. It's possible Tim Anderson could be Barry Larkin, but I sure as hell ain't expecting that.

The 1886-2010 Chicago Cubs have no affect on the 2016 Chicago Cubs.

Rizzo's 2015 BAbip of .289 was slightly below his career numbers.

Bryant's .379 BAbip ranked 5th in the entire league in BAbip in 2015....chances Bryant even breaks .350 in BAbip in 2016?

Russell had similarly inflated rookie BAbip--vs RHP, .358. Russell's mere .208 BAbip vs LHP should increase...but both Russell and Bryant are prime
candidates to regress toward the mean at the plate in 2016. While Rizzo should continue to put up the same numbers he has been.

Per Levine on the score today...Rizzo thinks Addison Russell will blossom into an absolute stud this season and is primed to be the best player on the team.

I feel as if you're new to spring training.

Did you also hear Brandon Phillips state that he wouldn't pick any other starting staff over Desclafani and the rest of the troops, and that they are totally planning on making a run to the World Series this year?

What do you want Rizzo to say? "Eh...I love my guy Addy, and KCCO!...but I really think he peaked last season. Can't really see him improving too much... I'm glad Maddon knows to continue hitting him 9th so he doesn't mess with our 1-7 too much."
