If your position is that Lester was a lousy pitcher, I disagree. If you look at his ERA and WHIP his numbers are pretty good. But if your position is they overpaid for him, I agree. I think they overpaid for Heyward too. but if they win a title with the help of those two, I will certainly be happy about it. Zimmerman and Span could have been both signed for less than they paid Heyward and I would have preferred those moves. I hope I am wrong and Theo made the better decision in the end. We shall see.

The jealousy is running deep.

And if he were standing right next to the fence, that might qualify as evidence of his height. But a photo taken at an upward angle where the subject is not even very close to the fence.....not so much. Who cares if he's 6'5 or 6'6 anyway?

In that case, you might want to slip some shoe pads in his spikes just to be safe.

You happy bastards! It must be nice to quibble over an inch of height on the best RF arm I've seen since Mike Shannon. The Cards are gonna miss him, but Steve Piscotty may help us to forget.

I tell you....I expected big things from Jason last year, but he was really tentative in the first few months. Made no great plays out there and was hitting like .240. After the ASB he started putting wood on the bat and seemed to get comfortable in right; made some nice plays.

However, most Card fans will tell you that he was overpaid. Now he's really overpaid! It's hard to figure how a guy his size can have so little power. Your young guys are gonna shame him. Where in the order is he gonna hit? Eigth?

I ain't grabbin shit, McCracken. Nothing to grab on. I've lived thru Cardinal decade long swoons before a couple of times and I will survive this one. All this bullshit about "The Cardinal way" just makes me laugh. I hated La Russa's guts and hate the present management, including Matheny.

It's a racist, elitist organization that's as crooked as a snake. Even the announcers make me puke. Such a suck up, kiss ass bunch...the lot of 'em.

We are gonna finish 3rd behind you and the Pirates and I don't give a fuck anymore. Yeah...I'll still follow the team. WTF else can I do? I'm still a baseball fan above all else.....just a little jaded.

BTW, I don't blame any black ball player to want to get the fuck out of St. Louis.

MESA, Ariz. -- He hasn’t even taken an official swing with his new team yet, but Chicago Cubs center fielder Jason Heyward is garnering praise from all corners of the team's clubhouse. As position players reported for their first day of spring training on Tuesday, Heyward was already winning over his new teammates.

“The guy is a specimen,” pitcher Jason Hammel said Tuesday morning

Don't get me wrong: I have a soft spot for the guy too. But he is almost un-listenable to now. I often watch the game with the sound off to get away from McCarver and listen to Mike on the radio, but it's a bitch! 2 guys have already made outs and the count is 3-2 on the 3rd guy before he stops blathering about some bullshit and reports the game.

And even when he's paying attention he rarely knows the name of a player: "There goes a pop fly ball to...uh...the right fielder.....uh.... Heyward.....he's going back....it's gone!!!"

No reason to have Mike Shannon on play-by-play when John Rooney is sitting right next to him. Is Jerry Reinsdorf a minority owner of the Cardinals?

The most biting segment of the night belongs to Pibb and Skilling as well, when a white guest pundit (Galavant and Psych’s Timothy Omundson) unconsciously displays the coded racial language endemic to sports discussion. I listen to an ungodly amount of sports talk radio, and it’s the sort of thing you can’t stop hearing once it’s pointed out, with white players being praised for their intellectual approach to the game and black players being lauded for their physical prowess. In an edgily hilarious montage of players, Omundson’s commentator throws out rapid-fire adjectives, Tom Brady’s “keenly analytical mind” contrasted with Vince Wilfork being “a freak of nature.” It builds up a momentum similar to the Richard Pryor/Chevy Chase word association SNL sketch, Omundson rattling off evaluations such as: “industrious,” “specimen,” “sticktoitiveness,” “miracle baby,” “a tactical mastermind,” and finishing up gloriously with a black player possessed of “magical powers he learned from his grandma.” Pibb and Skilling try to call him on it, but even they have to concede he’s right on in calling Rob Gronkowski “a silverback gorilla,” so they let it slide. Brilliant.

I expect him to start slow, but looking for him to cover ground...major issue with the RF and LF guys we have.

Question is, does he feel comfortable right away with younger guys? I know its only a few days in mesa, but he looks really comfortable just in the social setting....maybe he looked that way in St Louis too, but not fitting in sure doesnt seem to be a problem....so it shouldnt be an excuse...

That's cute. The Cubs are giving him $2.25 million as a retirement gift.
