Manny Alexander was Sammy's best buddy. I thought they actually found the steroids in Manny's car back in the late 90s.

Prior doesn't surprise me and actually, after they dropped him yesterday, I figured he was on the report.

Wood does surprise me - in a relative sense as nobody in baseball would "really" surprise me. That's a little disappointing.

Agreed.

Which leads me to this question: what names, if they did appear on this report, would cause the greatest uproar?

To me, if the list included Derek Jeter or Cal Ripken Jr., the league would probably fall apart.

Varitek, Joyner & Bagwell are all guys I've always thought were character guys, so i'm pretty surprised by those three.
Nomar I flat out missed, or assumed it was a smear campaign to justify a dangerous trade that could have backfired.

So this is the list of guys who weren't smart enough to cover their tracks.
Is it fair to assume that they might comprise only between 10%-25% of the total users?

That would create a bit of a stir.
Ichiro? Schilling's bloody sock?

To me the biggest problems for baseball here are -

Clemens, since he is an East Coast God.
Pujols, since he was the "future".

Bagwell and Garciaparra had both vehemently denied using if I recall correctly. These were character guys, like Rob said, that just gives BBall more of a black eye to go with it's bloodied torso.

Add A-Rod, Junior and Ozzie Smith to that list.

the sick side of me wishes that Mitchell threw Joe Morgan on the list as a joke
Anyway, what does Joe think about all of this?

Good ones. Big Papi would be another one, since he's kind of a "Face of the Game" type of player right now. If Pujols is on the list, that's a major black eye.

Given a little time to think it over, the name that would shock the most would be Greg Maddux.

I don't know...
I think Cal Ripken and would be huge. The model of consistency is a doper? that would be pretty shocking.

I'd like to know the burden of proof here. This isn't a court. They've just listed out a bunch of names. Is this hearsay? Is there evidence?

They better have some concrete evidence or this is just more "official" speculation and a waste of everyone's time.

Also, I would think lawsuits will start to fly unless they can back this up somehow. The first endorsement Pujols loses for character issues stemming from this report is going to end up in court I would imagine.

Hopefully their standard of proof is greater than that used by Keeping Score

Well one thing you have to understand is that these players that chose to use substances that were illegal are not going to have an easy ride into the hall of fame. I know that when I played, we didn't have steroids problems, we had 'desire to win' problems which wasn't so much a problem, except for the teams that played us. And the worst thing a guy did was want to win too much, but I never needed to want to win too much because I wanted to win enough to where we won plenty.

I'm glad to see guys like Andre Dawson, Derrek Lee, and Frank Thomas are not on there. Greg Maddux as well.

I know right....thats gotta be quite disappointing if your idols were cheating....you wouldn't feel the same. I was a big Sammy guy but then once he snapped on Rick Reilley that day I knew something was up.

I wonder what Sammy's 'translator' is going to say when his name ends up in this report.

Wait. Has the list been released yet. I've only seen the deadspin one.

The original leaked WNBC list has said to have been flawed. WFAN has reported the list will be leaked in 3 minutes (12:45) and all of the information will be posted at the press conference at 1pm central.

If the Pujols listing is correct, I say that will create the single greatest fallout from all of this.

Unfortunately, Bagwelll's name does not surprise me at all.

As long as Biggio & Ausmus aren't on it, I'll be ok. :D

I bet Teinowitz will be happy to find out that Juan Uribe's solid physique is a result of hard work and not the juice...
