speaking of hoarse voices, scully really sounded like she had laryngitis in the last episode. "my struggle pt. 2" was better than part 1, but it felt incredibly rushed. and i still didn't like mchale's character, nor that every "news" update that was shown was only from that show. it didn't legitimize it any more. some of it was good and reminded me of old "x-files" yarns, but overall the episode again didn't feel complete. like maybe we needed 2 more episodes. but with the ending the way it was, we will probably be getting another batch in the next few years.

overall, i'm mildly disappointed with the whole reboot. "My Struggle" and "Home Again" were the worst entries, and "Founder's Mutation" was clearly the best. "Babylon" was decent, but could've been strengthened a little bit. "Mulder and Scully Meet the Were-monster" was a real disappointment despite having some brilliant moments.

i'd like to see this come back, but get some starving young writers to spec a few episodes. do 8 episodes and do a 3 part "conspiracy" arc, and let mulder and scully have some fun investigating weird creatures and give us a few thrills.

it was nice seeing everybody back, but the lone gunmen should be brought back in full next time. if smoking man can survive being exploded, the lone gunmen can survive too.

:D :D out of :D :D :D :D

for the entire run.

I thought Babylon was the worst. It tried to stuff too many ideas at once into an episode. Like Carter knew he was running out of time but he just had to put them out there. A proto Mulder and Scully, the problem of evil, a funny scene, the Lone Gunman, a bunch of contemporary music, religious extremism, all of those things together caused the tone to go all over the place. Carter is the weakest writer on the show and it kind of highlights, to me at least, why nobody wanted any part of him for anything but the X-Files revival. The 3 episodes he didn't write were better than the ones he did. You can maybe get away with an episode that both includes a suicide bombing and Mulder tripping balls, doing backflips, and line dancing, but Carter isn't the guy to write it. Mulder's musings at the end seemed ham-handed. Compared to the monologue at the end of Jose Chungs's from Outer Space, it's night and day.

I thought the reboot was a pretty typical X-Files season in that the quality was all over the place. As much as I loved the show years ago, it was more a show with great episodes than a great show in itself. Sure most seasons had a better % of good episodes than this one, but oh well.

i didn't mind the drug trip, not that it was written well. but duchovny just kind of always cracks me up. carter has never been a great writer, he's been a great idea guy. and "babylon" at least tried to finish its plot. "home again" didn't even come close to that. and it also seemed a bit smarmy throwing the emotional stuff into it. i can't argue for "babylon" and that's why i said i felt it was decent. but if anyone wants to declare it the worst, i'm not gonna defend it. i just didn't have that much of a problem with it compared to some of the other episodes.

all of the episodes should have been about the first and last one. those two episodes were a movie in itself.
