Blackhawks general manager Stan Bowman can sense another Stanley Cup, and when he does he never is reluctant to make significant deals for missing pieces necessary to make a run, even if it means giving up valuable future assets.

After Bowman took a swing for the fences in acquiring Andrew Ladd from the Jets on Thursday, he kept swinging away Friday. In two separate deals he added two wingers for depth in one and a veteran defenseman in another from one of their the Western Conference rivals.

In the bigger of the two moves Bowman acquired wingers Dale Weise and Tomas Fleischmann from the Canadiens in exchange for center Phillip Danault and a second-round pick in the 2018 entry draft.

The Hawks made the move in part because they wanted to acquire players to flank the playmaking Teuvo Teravainen, who the Hawks would like at center down the stretch run of the season.

In a swap of defensemen earlier in the day, the team traded 37-year-old Rob Scuderi to the Kings for 33-year-old Christian Ehrhoff in a trade of veterans who had fallen out of favor — and into the AHL — with their respective teams.

The moves seem to signal a vote of confidence in Teravainen, the 21-year-old who had been the subject of some trade speculation. But the Hawks appear set on going forward with Teravainen. But Bowman showed little hesitation in dealing another valued prospect in Danault and a high draft pick in an attempt to go for the Cup now. On Thursday, he traded winger Marko Dano and a first-round pick in this year's draft to get Ladd.

With Ladd on board to secure the open slot on the top line at left wing, the Hawks bring in Weise and Fleischmann, who have 14 goals and 10 goals respectively to add forward depth to their bottom lines.

Teravainen had been playing on wing for most of the season with Danault, a 23-year-old who has filled in while Marcus Kruger has been out because of a dislocated wrist. Danault, their first-round draft pick in 2011, played in 30 games with the Hawks and had one goal and four assists. He had impressed the team with his defensive ability during his few months on the roster.

Fleischmann ($750,000) and Weise ($1.025 million) have reasonable salary-cap hits the Hawks can take on with the Canadiens paying 30 percent of Weise's salary. Both are signed through the end of this season.

The Hawks also placed winger Jiri Sekac on waivers in an attempt to clear more cap space.

The Hawks acquired Scuderi, 37, from the Penguins in December for Trevor Daley but Scuderi, who played in 17 games for the Hawks, struggled to get on the ice after the All-Star break. The Hawks placed him on waivers and then sent him to Rockford on Feb. 17.

Ehrhoff, 33, is an unrestricted free agent after this season but also has been stuck in the AHL with the Ontario Reign since Feb. 11.

The Hawks took on two-thirds ($2.25 million) of Scuderi's $3.375 million-cap hit in the trade with the Penguins and buried $950,000 of that in sending Scuderi to Rockford. The Hawks retain 50 percent of the $2.25 million cap hit on Scuderi in the deal with the Kings while the Kings retained 15 percent, or $225,000, of Ehrhoff's $1.5 million cap hit. Ehrhoff's deal expires at the end of this season while Scuderi's lasts through next season, meaning the Hawks are on the hook for $1.125 million of Scuderi's cap hit in 2016-17.

In essence, the Hawks took on a slightly larger cap hit this season ($175,000) in exchange for a smaller cap hit in the same amount next season had they chosen to keep Scuderi in Rockford the entire season. Instead, Scuderi gets a chance to resurrect his career with the Kings, one of his former teams, while Ehrhoff could get a chance to do that with the Hawks.

Ehrhoff has played in 40 games for the Kings this season and averaged 15 minutes, 10 seconds of ice time per game.

It is unclear when all three will join the Hawks or if Ehrhoff will report to Rockford. But the immediate aftermath is of little concern to the Hawks. What matters to Bowman and the Hawks is what happens in April when the playoffs begin.

Bowman may have fewer resources to work with in the future, but that is a concern for another day. He was all-in after making the Ladd trade Thursday. He went even further on Friday.

Ladd gets his number: Injured center Marcus Kruger had been wearing No. 16 for the Hawks, but Ladd wore it with the Jets and when he was previously with the Hawks. Now Kruger will cede it to Ladd, the Hawks announced Friday. Kruger, who has been out since December, will wear No. 22 when he returns.

It looks great on paper. Let's hope Gabriel Landeskog and Varlamov don't wipe their asses with it. Such things have been known to happen. Our ragtag fuckups of 2011 were inches away from knocking Vancouver out in the first.

Turnover being said....he didn't exactly get ride of anyone important. The 3rd and 4th lines were kind of just Rockford fill ins.

Danault was to be an important piece going forward, but I think Stan has correctly assessed the fast declines of Toews, Hossa, and Seabrook -- i.e., half the core -- and wants to get that one last Cup before the window slams shut.

As for mortgaging the draft, there's some heavy speculation that the Blackhawks are going to poach Jimmy Vesey from the Perds once his draft rights expire this summer, which would make up for not having a first-round pick. Kid's been tearing up the NCAA.

Toews has suffered because of this, Teuvo should of been on his RW this year. Seabs does seem to be declining, which makes me wonder, why they extended him so much. BUT, I can not complain with 3 cups and sure as hell won't with 4. He could blow the team up next year, and Stan is still a god to me.

Seabrook always plays like shit at this time of the year. He plays good early in the season and in the playoffs. I'll need to see Seabs suck ass during the playoffs before I'll say he is declining.

Kudos to Stan for recognizing the historical significance of winning a 4th title this year, going for it, and yet managing to do so without jamming all his chips into the middle.

To improve the team this much without giving up Schamltz, Pokka or Forsling is nothing short of amazeballs.
