I have never seen a more politically driven awards show. From Chris Rock's initial opening of the show that went on and on and on about the lack of black nominees, to Biden talking about sexual abuse, to Sam Smith dedicating his award to the LGBT community.....I know it's an election year, but Geeezzzz enough already.

Denied.. Its a big stage and they want to get a message they deem worthy out.

Grilled up a couple of New York Strip steaks tonight and before my wife and I dined, I gave a small speech about ending racism in this country. Then I remembered I forgot to take the baked potatoes out of the oven.

Someone needs to get the academy registered as a PAC.

Rather be entertained than have a bunch of blow-holes spout their various political agendas. Never have seen one that was this political before. Hope there is never another similar to this one.

This is the first one I've seen, I thought it was kinda rude playing music in the background when the winner is speaking.

I agree, that is rude. But they do that to try to make the winners stop talking, as they want time to do stupid crap like Chris Rock selling girl scout cookies.

That's a ridiculous question. As much as I support the idea of ending sexual abuse of any kind, it's an awards show. Celebrating the finest films should be the focus. Let's see, they covered racial equality, sexual abuse, LGBT issues, global warming......Some of these issues I believe in and support, but I don't care to have them take over the focus during the Academy Awards.

It was too much this year. They should've opened with it just to get it over with and moved on to the usual Oscar shit. Instead it was the whole goddamn thing. I know Elmhurst Steve is saying this because he hates black people, but as someone who doesn't hate black people I have to agree with him that it was over the top. "Great opportunity, great responsibility" is a line that needs to be thrown away.

Of the "big" awards they got 1 out of 6 right. Leo gets a lifetime achievement award in a weak year which is cool so bump it up to 1.5. So for the Academy it was a pretty good year, see if they can build up to a solid 2 out of 6 next year and it'll really be something. Spotlight is the worst winner since Crash.

i didn't realize you guys had such memory problems. it's almost 1 out of every 3 or 4 ceremonies that wind up being socio-politically charged.

I did not watch after the opening and then the skits about fixing the movies with blacks but you are probably right.

Bryan, Brando was the first thing that popped in my mind. We must be old. Anyway, I don't watch much in recent years but the other big "political" or "cause" time was a little after AIDS broke wide open. I think this show may have started the whole stupid ribbon thing actually. So there is that.

I wasnt alive when it happened  But the story is legend.

I just accept it as part of the deal with Award shows. But Brando not even showing up to pick up the best actor award is ballsy.

Every year some actor/actress uses the podium to deliver some type of BS speech like they are MLK or something. Easy to be a liberal bleeding heart with 30 mil in the bank. Tax these clowns up the ass like Uncle Bernie wants!

I think that was the gist when Rock said Will Smith has 20 million reasons from Wild West to not feel snubbed.

Exactly! This is about class more than race. You can be standing in line at Gibsons for an hour and Denzel and Wesley Snipes come waltzing in and they're seated with Mo in five seconds. VOTE BERNIE!

straight; didn't watch

I did walk in the room when my wife was watching. I thought it would have been funny if Rock came out in an entirely white tux. I watched Making a Murderer. Great documentary.

I thought < America >, the rebel , doesnt conform to such commercialized things like the Awards shows?

I can say I have not watched any of these shows in at least 10 years.

Did you paint your toenails while you watched in a big snuggy with a bowl of popcorn?

Depends on the color of their skin?

Slaving in the baking sun for hours just
To see the master creep into the shack where your lady at
9 months later got a baby, that's
Not quite what you expected, but you
Refuse to neglect it, cause you
Know your wifey loves you, thus you refuse to accept it
That's that type shit that turn my granny light-skinned

This is the only acceptable response.

If you watched a show put on by liberals, starring liberals, and congratulating liberals, yet complained that it was too liberal, you should hit yourself in the head with a hammer, until you can't.

Never said it was too liberal dipshit. I said it was too political. I also said that while I agreed with some of the political agendas that were forwarded during the show, I still object to them being brought up during the ceremony. The Academy Awards is supposed to be about celebrating the best movies produced in the past year. The focus should be on that and remain on the movies. All the political bullshit (from either side of the fence) should not be a part of it.

Yeah, you weren't complaining that it was too liberal, you were just complaining that all of those liberals made it too political. No question, you are the dumbest poster on the site.

I never said a thing about liberals. My issue was with people (whether they be liberal or conservative) forwarding their political agendas in what I consider an inappropriate forum.
