The Sox have two first rounders, four in the top 100 and five in the top 110. At the same time, this is reported to be a very strong draft. The Sox seem to acknowledge these important points by only offering low, short term contracts to any FA who would cost a pick.

This will be the draft that defines Hahn as a GM. He has seemingly done well with high picks in the last two years. However, this is the year he really needs to excel.

Nail this draft and hopefully these three years will rival the Mc Dowell, Thomas, Ventura, Alvarez years of drafting

Historically under this scenario, Sox would draft guys and not sign them or draft some bums who would sign cheaply. Now with a cap on bonus money, hopefully that paradigm has changed.

Well we already know it's changed after they drafted Rodon and signed him. Just have to scout the right guys, cant just settle for a bunch of pitchers (they are good at it), need some position players filling the ranks.

The Sox did well drafting guys like Sale and Rodon, who were both nearly major league ready when drafted. In recent years, their drafting of position players has not been good. Is it just their drafting, or is the problem in the development? Is the instructional phase of the process where the real problems exist? Should they identify good positional players and draft them, it normally takes a 2-3 year period before that player has a chance at the major league level. Guys like Kris Bryant, who took just over a year, are far between. Based on their drafting record to date, I wonder why anyone would have much hope for a great draft this year of positional players. Trading pitching (which they have had success in drafting) might be the best means of acquiring position players needed, as they have with Frazier this season (though it was position players used to get Frazier). Just as the Cubs look at deals for starting pitching in exchange for surplus talent in the infield and outfield, the Sox could do the reverse with pitching. It doesn't matter how a team is constructed. Not every part needs to be homegrown.

I would be comfortable with 1 bat and 1 pitcher with the first two picks.

Keyser, who is going to be there at 10?

It's really early but it's safe to say OF Corey Ray and LHP AJ Puk won't be there. They both look like locks to go in the top 5. One guy who might be there is Puerto Rican SS Delvin Perez. He has the tools to go 1-1 but he's got serious attitude problems on and off the field. How high he'll go depends on how much a team thinks he'll mature. If he's there at 10 I think they should grab him.

The Sox have a lot of picks and its important for the franchise they get something out of them. I fail to see the controversy in starting a thread over this.

A true Cubs thread has Elmhurst Steve saying "I think the Cubs are well positioned to contend for years to come. They have a lot of great young talent and veteran presence. Theo has done a remarkable job. Beep boop beep", then RPB chiming it with "IF WE CANT BE POSITIVE ARE WE NOT HUMAN?" and the rest of the fanbase literally drooling on their keyboards at the thought of Kris Bryant pounding their boipucci's.

That circus doesn't happen here.

On a troll level, I got a Cubs fan to say something negative about talking about draft picks.

On a serious level, I am not referencing a specific person and extrapolating modest minor league success to MLB greatness. What I am saying is that with so many picks at the top of a good draft the Sox have a unique opportunity and Hahn needs to find some players who will be impact MLB talent to save his own job.

of course we care about drafts in a general sense. Prospects are suspects. I put my time into the MLB team.

So you care about the draft where you draft prospects, then after you draft them you do not care about them?

Also, can you let me know how bad Indiana got rolled last night in Iowa I missed the final score?

Then Theo identified some good suspects...and Keyser seems to care more about the draft than the MLB roster....so, there goes that theory....

Theo identified them and you pined for them for years. It's not a matter of Cubs fans hoping they were good. They full on plugged them into the lineup. The Sox will draft these players and I will all but forget about them for another couple of years.

Keyser is paid to care but I only speak for myself. I have no title granted by general Sox fandom.

It's funny that Cub fans are trying to draw a false equivalence between the two. It's ok to talk about prospects. If all you do is talk about prospects and nobody on the actual team, it's worthy of derision. And that was the Cub forum pre-2015.

So, you are a Cub fan post 2015? I believe we can find you some seats in the 540 section

That is a fact. If you look at the Sox record since Hahn took over as GM, it has to amongst the worst in Baseball and even in years where people thought the team had made moves that would have them contending. If that doesn't change pretty quickly Hahn will be out of a job.
