I went to Sloan Park two summers ago for an EXST night game when I was in Phoenix for work, and thought the facility was fantastic. Better than most minor league ballparks, and leaps and bounds better than HoHoKam.

I know that I'm flying out two days early for my work meeting so I can watch two games at Sloan Park. Ignoring the cost of the tickets and any concessions inside the park, the total spend (some by me, some by Hyatt to cover my hotel room on points) for 48 hours is easily $600 - hotel, car, In-N-Out, drinking while ogling ASU undergraduate women young enough to be my daughter, etc. And that's if I don't get to the casino. If they were still at HoHoKam, I'm not sure I'd have bothered, that place was a dump.

So you are a fan of a park, so much so that you would pay at least $600 just to sit in it, regardless of who is playing?

Just imagine the economic impact of 1.75 million on the South Side then if you are so enthused about 230k in Arizona!

No, I'm a fan of the team and getting away from Chicago. But the park definitely plays some sort of role. Maybe I'd only go for one game, or maybe I'd not go at all unless the tickets were more reasonable, and schedule the trip for the following week when it's quiet in Phoenix.

I have a free night on that Monday night before my flight home the next day. I'm not going to go watch the Giants at Scottsdale Stadium because it's hard to find parking and the seating is crap. But if they were playing a night game at Peoria, I'd probably go because it's a nice stadium and it's baseball, even though it's not my team. Same goes with watching the White Sox or the Dodgers at Glendale.

It had just opened a little earlier - it was July 2014.

I love how Jake Arrieta intentionally walks the first hitter of an inning just to pitch in situations with a runner on.

0.21 boredoms per minute.

That is 9% less bpm than the average for a local sports broadcast.

You could just go to see them play the Diamondbacks at Talking Stick which is probably the best park in the Cactus League.

Why do you have Sloan autocorrect to Talking Stick?

Sick of seeing guys who will not be on the roster take over by the 5th inning for guys I want to see play more. I understand the need to determine whether LaStella, Kawasaki or someone else will get the final roster spot, but the real season can't get here fast enough.

I'd like to go to a game at Talking Stick if I go to Arizona for a longer trip that's not work-related next year. This time, I had to work within the parameters of about 8 people's schedules including various K-12 spring breaks. So while I got one of the dates I suggested for our client briefing, I was just happy to not have the meeting pushed back to the first week of April.

I also like games at the complex in Peoria off of Bell Road (Mariners, Padres). It's getting older, but it's a very comfortable place to watch a game and there are reasonable places to eat and drink around it. Unfortunately, the only night game on Saturday is a White Sox split squad vs. the Dodgers, and I'm not driving all the fuck the way out from Mesa to Glendale to see guys not good enough to beat out Avisail Garcia for a job.

It's just different now that they have a good team. The past few years, I was anxious to see the kids get in the game to gauge the progress they were making and see how they measured up to major league talent. Now, I have more interest in the players already at the major league level and how they are doing.
