I heard an interview saying he gets his inspiration for these thing by always listening. He made particular note to say he listens at church. He is now on the B and B banned list.

What is wrong with it?

Go be a Mets fan. Terry Collins is straight edge.

IMU,

Why attack me? I like Maddon but this clown shit needs to stop because when it doesn't work he looks like a fool.

It'll MOSTLY stop when the season starts....with the exception of a magician here, a penguin there....The pressure and intensity of the season will be there and provide plenty of edge to the whole team. For now, it's spring training...and I think he is trying to create a loose environment.

That said, the season can't start soon enough for me. I'm not really into the "sillyness" of all the Maddon "schtick".

Clown shit? Having fun?

What result is having fun supposed to have? What do you mean "when it doesn't work?"

When I take my department our for lunch during the week....and then next week our social media and website engagement numbers are down....do I look like a fool for doing something fun with my employees?

No. But morale remains high at the company and you look at the big picture; happy employees normally do 'better' over a period of time.

Even more so...these are mostly kids in their young to mid 20's living the dream of playing a kid's game. Let them have fun.

Fucking old people, I swear.

lol @ IMU's definition of corporate "fun"

Everyone pretends to enjoy workplace lunches because talking up free food like its the greatest honor one can be given is a touchstone of American culture, but most people deep down would gladly pay the $10 to eat by themselves. Even if you like your coworkers, even if by some miracle you like your boss, nobody enjoys the "OH ITS OKAY, WE HAVE FUN HERE" attitude. It's work.

Maddon is just a creepy old drunk who's living the dream of so many upper middle class WASP's who vacation to the Florida Keys every 3 months. He's perfect for the fanbase of the team he coaches, because that boring crowd of pay-$300-for-Jimmy-Buffet-tickets Cubs fans will eat his bullshit right up.

Meanwhile Jorge Soler, who grew up in an embargoed Cuba, has to sit and watch this like its funny and cute.

No, it's not. And I love you, Jimmy, but every time you care about dumb shit like this, you're just playing to Sox fans like America who hate themselves.

Joe Maddon makes millions, as does pretty much everyone on his team. Also, they're in-shape twenty-somethings playing baseball for a living. If they're so miserable that they give two shits that their manager looks quirky from time-to-time, then they should reevaluate their priorities.

And Maddon loves that people are calling him goofy. That's what he wants. He would rather people focus on him. It's certainly arguable whether it makes a difference, but he's definitely accomplishing what he set out to accomplish.

People saying Guillen's media persona was to deflect interest from his players onto himself. I dont agree, all it did was get Ozzie fired and the Sox stuck with Robin Ventura.

Guillen is maybe the best manager in the world and he cannot manage because of his "deflecting attention" policy? Yea, right.

Fail. We go to lunch together even when it isn't on the company dime, unless we're all busy.

You've been a truck driver, Uber driver and a bus driver. Not sure you can really comment on this. Not exactly the most social jobs.

Hard to deflect when you have a GM dumping shit on you every second of the day.

I've also worked in an office, in the maritime industry and for a comedy theater in Chicago that you've undoubtedly heard of where I've done things with my coworkers that would make IkeSouth blush. Universal rule: once the boss thinks he's part of the fun there ceases to be any fun. Even worse is when the boss is desperate to be a part of the fun the way Maddon is.

But go ahead tell me how happy you groveling office rats are faced with spending even more time together during your mandated break and the ignominy of having to pay for it too.

It's amazing that Soler has the constitution to withstand these assaults. We should start a GoFundMe for the Cub players who were exposed to.....A Van.

That the coach's antics are a brilliantly considered plan to remove the focus and pressure from the players.

The only time his antics really deflected criticism from the team was when he and KW were having their knock down, drag out. Even that was fomented more by Cowley's hate for KW.

I said it was debatable as to whether it has any effect at all, and you said I called it "brilliant." Same thing, I guess.

I used to have this boss that gave out personalized hockey jerseys every year. He personalized them. So there was a "Special Ed", "Mr. Anal", "Tool", among others. He thought it was hilarious.

Everyone else had a $150 jersey that they would never wear again.
