Telegraph to the entire league that you're trying to unload a guy to tank his value as much as possible. Then the league bottomfeeders swing by and grab him for pennies on the dollar. Created a new need to be filled via the draft too.

Pace may just be another sexy failure of a GM.

George McCaskey said it on the air weeks ago that they are working with the agent on a trade.

I've never negotiated a trade in a pro sports league, but I would imagine the threat of waking away makes it much easier to get good value. So much for that!

BB gets back to the Double TE offense he likes running so much. Now if he can keep them both out of jail!

From Biggs's mailbag:

"Maybe there is a chance the Bears can get a late-round draft pick in exchange for Bennett but keep in mind he’s going to want a new contract from any team he goes to, so no one is going to want to give up much in the way of a draft pick. Remember last season the Bears had to trade Brandon Marshall AND a draft pick to get a draft pick back in return. Some high-ranking officials with other clubs have told me for some time they doubt the Bears will be able to trade Bennett."

So has he been traded or not? Confusing comments about NE.

Bennett and a 6th for the Patriots 4th. So the Patriots get the pick back they sent the Bears for Bostic. Bears now have 2 picks in the 6th.

nfl.com says he has

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap300000 ... o-patriots

bears send marty and a 6th for a 4th rounder

better than what they got for marshall... with the O/U of 4.5 games played in 2017 for zach miller, they need to find another TE

That is a ridiculously low return for a guy who could help the team a lot in the coming season. I dont believe in Zach Miller and neither does anyone else. Same stupid shit as Marshall.

It's either trade him or watch him walk for nothing. If they've been trying to trade him for 18 months, I'd say they were lucky to get something for him.

Great pickup. He will probably make the Pro Bowl and get a ring next year.

He will be pouting all season due to Gronk getting more balls thrown his way.

The Bears' dislike of Bennet was an open secret, which of course makes it difficult to extract value in any deal. To complain about low returns is to ignore just how well known it was around the league that the Bears and Bennet were heading toward a divorce.

Bears dropped his bad attitude, his salary, AND got a 4th round pick? Sounds like a good trade for the Bears.

I agree with Big Chicagoan. Which is something I thought I'd never say.

2015 Bears
Zach Miller - 439 yards on 46 targets (5 TD)
Martellus Bennett - 439 yards on 80 targets (3 TD)

Bennett skipped last year’s offseason program in an attempt to get a new contract, which is his right, but is relatively rarer for players with multiple years left on their deals.

Bennett was suspended for a week in 2014 after bodyslamming a rookie in a fight in practice, and was listed as inactive for last Thanksgiving’s game after another practice incident. Details are thin on that one, but the Tribune reported he had “a temperamental outburst during practice leading up to the Packers game and had been growing increasingly moody as his role in the offense evolved.”

OH MY GOD !!!! HOW COULD YOU TRADE THIS GUY ????

I don't think you are understanding what he is doing. He is trying to take a team, which had bad character players and no talent, and add talent. This team is not a SB bound team this year, or last or next, so there is no reason to hang onto a guy who wants more money 2yrs into his 4yr deal. He added 2 nice ILBs and a nice RT. This draft is going to define his GM status is Chicago. Also, to transition from a 4-3 to a 3-4 takes like 2-3yrs.

apparently this trade allowed them to move up 77 picks to pick #127... i figured it was a late 4th round pick but #127 has to be near the start of the 4th.
