I'm not sure what side I take on the White Sox/LaRoche stuff, but it sure looks like there's been enough ham-handedness to go around.

Watching the Cubs/Dbacks game right now and they just did a little piece on the Cubs 1st Base Coach and how his son is home schooled and is in the clubhouse everyday.

This is not that weird and baseball is just a completely different environment than other sports. Teams have bat boys....they are around the team all the time and in the clubhouse. An mlb clubhouse is not this place of naked dongs an profanity and vulgarity. Its like a big lounge with many rooms. I doubt the manager even addresses the team but once a week during the regular season....if that. He posts the times shit happens and guys show up for it. If things ever get heated or there is serious business to discuss I am sure Dad sends him off to see the clubbies who hang out with him as they arent in there to see that shit either....and he probably tips them at least 5 figures each after the season for it.

I want to know if this was really Rollins' doing. He has been a huge piece of shit for as long as I can remember. That being said....I can not believe a has been on a minor league contract would actually facilitate this.

It was probably no one.

Ill bet KW saw someone messing around with Drake one day, thought about the bad year last year and just snapped and said FUCK THIS SHIT.

That would be sooooo Kenny

That's probably about how it happened. That's how the table got flipped. I think the Sox were listening to music after a loss and Kenny lost his shit. Probably best to keep him away from the team. I don't think the kid should be treated like a team member, but this is way more of a distraction than doing that ever was.

To be fair Kenny should have lost his shit over last year's team.

Levine: ‘Bizarre’ Adam LaRoche Drama Reverberates In Cubs Clubhouse
March 17, 2016 3:41 PM By Bruce Levine

MESA, Ariz. (CBS) — The Adam LaRoche debacle has been discussed everywhere in baseball since the 36-year-old veteran informed the White Sox on Tuesday of his plan to retire, a decision prompted by executive vice president Kenny Williams asking him to reduce the time that his 14-year-old son, Drake, spend around the team.

A team leader on the White Sox’s crosstown rival, Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo wasn’t shy about expressing his opinion on the subject. He didn’t think any of this drama would be taking place if LaRoche hadn’t had a poor 2015, when he hit just .207 with 12 homers and 44 RBIs in 127 games.

“For (Drake) to be allowed in the (clubhouse) and then can’t be, that is bizarre,” Rizzo said. “Personally, I don’t think it would have been an issue if he had driven in 125, as he normally does. Adam is a class-act guy. Whenever we go play them, he always has a ‘wounded warrior’ out there with him. He is heavily involved in things like that.”

The story out of White Sox camp has drawn opinion from many quarters about kids in the clubhouse and who’s right and wrong in this multi-layered debate.

“I don’t know where he is on this totally,” Rizzo said of LaRoche’s departure from White Sox camp. “I know he doesn’t play this game for the money. That is for sure. The whole thing is a tough situation.”

The Cubs are prone to having some kids in the house on game days, notably first-base coach Brandon Hyde’s son for most of the season.

“This is a soft spot for me,” Rizzo said. “These kids don’t even know how amazing it is for them right now. They are so used to it. I know Drake, he understands it. I know he is more appreciative of it. Just to see (David Ross’) kid in here the last few days, the smile on his face, David being able to look up at his son. That is one of my dreams in life. I want to have a son or daughter to look up to me like that. To see that here is a real soft spot for me.”

The Cubs love having Hyde’s son, Colton, around and as a good-luck vibe.

“We even asked (Hyde) to take him out of school,” Rizzo said. “We were kind of mad when he wasn’t around. We would get on (Hyde) about that, because (Colton) was part of it. He was part of the team. If there is a policy in place, you understand and respect it. For it to come out of the blue, I can’t grasp that.”

The LaRoche story has become media fodder and blown up to epic proportions.

“From my understanding is he had an agreement last year when he signed, that it was OK to bring his son around,” Rizzo said. “If it wasn’t a distraction, I don’t understand it. This is my opinion. I don’t usually like to speak out on a lot of maters, but family comes first no matter what.”

Ross has had his son in camp for a week.

“I feel bad for both sides,” Ross said of White Sox officials and LaRoche, whom he played with in Atlanta. “It is great to bring your kids to work. I cherish having my son here the last two days. I don’t take that for granted. This is a game but also a workplace. I see where both sides are coming from. To be honest with you, my family is way more important than my job. Sometimes you have to make a decisions about your core values. Adam made his decisions on what his core values are — more power to him. The White Sox are running a business. (TRAB!) It is a business and a workplace. They make the rules.”

I prefer my clubhouse kids to have names like Ulysses.

Li'l Rastus (born c. 1892, real name Ulysses Harrison) was a black youth who was adopted as a mascot by the Detroit Tigers baseball team.

Rastus was "adopted" by Ty Cobb. Although Cobb denied being a racist, he was often perceived as hostile to blacks. When Cobb brought Rastus to Bennett Park during the 1908 season, the team performed well, and performed less well when it went on a road trip without Rastus. Rastus was proclaimed to be a good luck charm, and was taken on the next road trip.

Rastus was temporarily dismissed from the Tigers' employ in September 1908. Rastus was then hired by the Chicago Cubs, the Tigers' World Series opponents, and was apparently good for their luck, as the Cubs won their second and final World Series.

The chagrined Tigers hired Rastus back for 1909, and Rastus traveled with the team. He often had to hide under Cobb's bunk or in his room to evade Jim Crow laws that imposed racial segregation in hotels. Cobb took Rastus back to Georgia with him, as a caddy and servant, but eventually fired him.
History

Rastus, whose true name was Ulysses Harrison, was a homeless black youth whom Cobb took a liking to and began bringing to the ballpark.[1] Cobb would rub the boy's head for good luck.[2] Rastus gained a reputation for bringing good luck, especially when the Tigers, unaccompanied by Rastus, went on the road and did badly. With the Tigers' return home to Rastus and Bennett Park, their winning ways were restored. Rastus was booked to accompany them on the next road trip.

In September 1909, Rastus was dismissed by the Tigers. Accounts differ as to why, whether small items were vanishing from the Tigers' locker room[1] or because the team was again playing badly despite Rastus' magic.[2] In any event, Rastus was picked up by the Chicago Cubs, who defeated the Tigers in five games.

The Tigers restored Rastus to his position for the 1909 season. Rastus would hide amongst the players or hide in Cobb's room or under his berth to evade Jim Crow laws. At the end of the season, Cobb took Rastus home to Georgia, intending to make a manservant out of him. He was not successful.[1]

Notice how not a single person is saying it is alright to have the kid there 100% of the time.

They know LaRoche and like him, and I would too if he was on an opponent, but deep down every knows that LaRoche is wrong here.

Eaton quote in the paper today said the kid essentially worked all day on various things, cleaning cleats, shagging balls, etc, and never said boo to anybody. I wouldn't have a problem with a kid like that around the office all day, making me copies, getting me coffee, etc.

Larry Holmes made a couple good points last night.

Just because Chris Sale or Anthony Rizzo (who doesn't even know the details so should probably shut up about it) or anyone else defends LaRoche doesn't mean that's the locker room consensus. If it makes even one person feel uncomfortable, it should at least be addressed and discussed.

Of course Bernstein went back to his "WE ARE ALWAYS TOLD TO TAKE THESE THINGS TO HR IMMEDIATELY. YOU SHOULD NOT CONFRONT HIM ABOUT IT." What a pussy...

For his faith in the established institutional authorities in any situation. There are plenty of people who don't give a fuck about that shit.

bernstein is that kid on the playground who gets up in your face with the belief that you will not punch him because you will "get in trouble".

"Touch me and I'll sue" is actually a term first coined by a young Daniel Bernstein at Deerfield Elementary in 1980, only to be ripped off by Tommy Gunn's promoter in the classic and underrated film, "Rocky V."

Remember in Hebrew school, when a shoving match was a big deal?
Worst-case scenario, somebody got their yarmulke knocked off.
It's true, man. These guys are no joke. They get all tanked up, throw a quick fist.
Some of them actually enjoy it.

Bernstein's favorite character in that movie is the Lawyer who steals Rocky's money (because in Rockyworld, Uncle Paulie has the ability to give away his sister and brother in law's POA)
