this is further proof that baseball isn't a real sport.

What other sport would allow someone to bring their pre-teen kid to work EVERY day?

Aren't these guys supposed to be focusing on their job???

baseball isn't a sport or a job. It is a pastime.

The question is, why did Kenny seem to change his mind:

1. He's just trying to get LaRoche to retire and save the $13M
2. He's pissed at Hahn and Ventura and wants a clubhouse run HIS way
3. One or more players who are somewhat valuable complained, and Kenny took the bullet for them so they wouldn't have to confront LaRoche themselves. The clubhouse unifies against Kenny instead of divides amongst itselves.

Point 3 only makes sense if it was a faction led by Abreu. Although Stugotz from the LeBatard show had the bemusing idea about what if it was actually Sale, and all this bitching at Kenny is just a cover....

Based on Kenny's past history, I'd go with #2.

The funny thing is if LaRoche hits .300 with 30 HR the players don't even complain...and if they do Kenny says, come back when you put up his numbers. Reality is, though, LaRoche blows and he's acting like an entitled superstar.

I doubt anyone even complained.

Definitely not acting like an entitled superstar if it was in his contract, as has been reported.

Just to put things in perspective: Abreu saw his son for the first time in something like 5 years during a summer baseball tour of Cuba.

Can the Sox players find a happy medium between carrying their kids to the on-deck circle and abandoning them on a commie island?

yea how hard would it be to have some sort of family day every other Sunday or something like that? That seems more than fair.

After taxes more like 7 million, but for most people, that is generational wealth. That is FU money to live on for a lifetime if handled properly. I can't imagine that LaRoche will not regret this decision one day. but it's a great break for the Sox to dump the contract of a shitty, unproductive, overpaid player that they tried all winter to trade. Hell, even though they were willing to take on most of the money, no teams were interested. Now they save all that money.

According to Baseball Reference, LaRoche's contracts throughout his career have totaled about $72 million, so he's taken home, what, $43 mildo after taxes and not counting agent/manager commissions? This is also a guy that loves to live in Kansas, not Manhattan, San Fran, etc. I doubt he'll actively regret losing that extra $7 million. How many moss-camo'd 4x4's can you ride on, anyway?

Heard a caller on the Score this morning, probably around 10:00 who said the way the White Sox have handled this is "problematic" and that they are so anti-family friendly that it's "horrific."

Horrific.

My four-year-old daughter threw her entire erector set at the radio when she heard that. "Why even pursue civil engineering if this is the world we live in," she said. V. sad.
