Alright folks...I've thought long and hard about what the Cubs can do to improve their current team... The quick and easy answers are "starting pitcher" and "end of bullpen" but I think we need to dig a little deeper to come up with a better move.

And that better move is to trade for Starlin Castro. Team friendly contract...excellent hitter that probably hasn't reached his prime yet...great clubhouse presence...hard worker...all the signs of an excellent piece to flesh out the roster. He is one of the hottest hitters in Spring Training right now... with power numbers that the league has been expecting for a few years but as of yet hadn't shown in the regular season.

Just one proposal that might catch the Yankees' attention would be Schwarber, Steele, and a lower tier prospect.

You could also put a package together headlined by Baez, Vogelbach, and a couple lower prospects.

Just some food for thought.

IMU is at most probably 30. So how has he suffered 107 years? 1984 he would not remember. That was torture.

This thread is actually pretty good. Notice no one is actually arguing against his point.

When Starlin is leading the AL in average at the ASB Cubs fans will still be claiming Theo won that trade. Theo leads the league in making other GMs lose sleep.

His record on trades is pretty great.

This is a risky one though. Could definitely lose this deal.

The Cubs' current organization has made some excellent moves...and many good ones.

I don't believe trading Starlin for Warren was one of them. How many Travis Woods, Clayton Richards and Trevor Cahills do you need? Adam Warren may have a slight edge on them in terms of stuff, but it was not a position of need or even a clear improvement. Ben Zobrist is valued most highly when he can roam the field filling in where needed. Dedicated second baseman? We'll see.

He's turned some shit into shineola. Bigfan doesn't give credit for those types of trades

The Cubs are fine, although having a lock down closer would be a good thing.

They are primed to make moves as needed by the trade deadline.

Castro? Not missed...

I will not be surprised if Castro has a nice year hitting with the Yankees, but his defense was always the bigger issue. Yes, he was better at 2nd base and maybe he continues to do well there. I like his sidearm throws on double plays. SS arm at 2nd base is a bonus. I still believe Zobrist will help the Cubs this year in many ways Castro would not. Castro's strikeouts in key situations where all that is needed is to move a runner, was a problem. I hope he does well with the Yankees, except when they play the Cubs.

His DP action killed us! :x

I think he led the league in bouncing into Double plays or was very near the top last 3 years.

Castro and Baez, both in the golfer mentality. Slow it down, play under control relaxed, really good things happen. Get out of that zone and become Sluggo, it all falls apart.

Yes. Lots of ground balls to his own position. I still go back to the All Star break and feeling like they needed to trade him, even if they got little in return. He may have streaks where he is great, but I trust he will revert to the unfocused lad we knew all too well here. Hitting into DP's, striking out and making errors on routine plays.

Castro came up an absolute stud at the plate...he never really matured defensively...until they moved him to second base, where he looked half decent. He was also rediscovering his stroke at the plate towards the end of last season. Nice flyer taken on him by the Yankees...lots of upside, very little risk.

He is owed 40.4M on his contract over the next 4 years including a 1M buyout in year 5.

If he turns out to be just another guy, that's 10M a year down the shitter.

$10M for Starlin Castro is a steal.

For the team dumb enough to pay him that money go for it. Yankees rule him now good luck with that.
