I thought Matt Szczur was out of options. They must really like that guy.

Szczur is the ideal 5th OF to have on a roster. Great defensively. Can play all 3 OF positions and has great speed on the base paths. He would make most other teams in that capacity. Unfortunately for him, the Cubs have decided to use backup infielders and catchers as backup OF's, as well, limiting his usefulness.

It will be interesting to see who they cut when Baez comes back. Probably Szczur, but possibly Warren or Grimm since they have options left. Cubs shouldn't need so many pitchers.

Szczur can stay once Baez comes back. La Stella can go be awful somewhere else.

Whooa Whooa Whoaa Chief!

Szcur is far from "ideal" anything.

GREAT Kid! If you know the stories, you might not find a better human outside of Jim Thome! but a great guy. Wont get more hustle out of anyone on the team.

He's 26 and maybe he got stronger, had a real good camp and maybe this is their way of saying, ok you earned a spot, but Baez is coming back, so here is a chance to keep it.

I question the 6 ft in height, for all the alleged speed in 2 years, of about 80 games, he has 2 steals and had some cheap bloop hits to RF. To be fair, he had some drives that got caught as well.

All about seeing a guy make it, especially a guy with the backstory he has, but I am holding off on the IDEAL and GREAT, as I havent seen anything that let me think his defense, speed or hitting are great. LOVE to be proven wrong, I will be the first guy to tell you Matty is great, if he is, but not there yet.

It's a good Roster and i think they'll win the NL Central, but it does not scream WS Championship to me.

The worst thing about the ABC7 home games is the obligatory "hey look who is at the game" interview at about the 4th inning. At least they're on the road tonight.
