In the last few days, Mac has been in a tizzy over Kyle Orton's grooming habits and the semen distribution of Bears' linebackers.

I keep expecting to hear a plug for either John Williams or the Chicago Tribune Holiday Fund.

I don't care about Briggs situation, it's a bad decision but people make bad decisions everyday. I could care less about famous peoples bad decisions.

You should care. The taxes we you pay help to fund social services programs -- like welfare and government housing -- so people don't starve, despite their irresponsible actions.

Simply "paying" for the babies men make isn't enough; that isn't fathering children. I abhor all men -- not just pro athletes -- for recklessly spraying their seed about without shouldering responsibility. On the other side, the mothers of "unwanted" babies are not innocent, either. Thumbs down to them as well.

And thumbs up to the Sun-Times for printing the story. The Bears, since their NFC title game win over the Saints on 1/21, have had an embarrassing year on and off the field.

I agree with you Mac. If he got in a fight at a bar that would be reported in the paper. I think banging women and producing children that you don't pay for is worse than getting in a bar fight.

I don't think the Sun-Times did anything wrong. They should expose him for being the ass hole that he is. He's a public figure and people in this city love the Bears. We should know if players are scum bags.

im glad mac brought up the 'more than $' issue of raising kids. god knows, i have absolutely $0 to contribute monthly to a child right now...but id take measures to make sure iw ouldnt have a kid (wrap lil frankie up) and if i did have one, id make goddamed sure i was invovled in the kids life as much as humanly possible.

but...i do agree with harry in the fact that this should not be front page news. if you wanna print it, fine...but do so in the entertainment section and not the cover.

I understand it's bad and I should care, but bad stuff like this is reported everyday. Briggs will be an afterthought in a week so why get so roughed up and pissed about it. I have no platform or energy to fight for this lady and persecuted mothers and fatherless children across the country. I have to work hard for me and my family. I feel bad for them, but because I can't do anything about it I really just put it aside and work on not making the same stupid mistakes and live my life better. Sounds burrito and preachy but you get the drift right?

Most of us don't have to take measures to be unattractive. It happens on its own.

You guys are quick to blame the guy in all of this but the women who sleep with these guys have a bit of responsibility in all of this to. Unprotected sex is a two way street but when you have women like Tonya Roberts who claim rape and extort guys and then has Urlachers kid and becomes a media whore in the process, I find it hard to feel sorry for them. I feel sorry for the kids who are used as pawns in all of this.

When these guys enter the NFL they are treated to hours of how to avoid these women who are looking for a quick buck and shame on them for taking the bait. Im one for getting laid but these guys have women falling at their cleets and getting beaver flashed in thier faces at every turn so where does it all end?

Whose to blame?

I tried to be a WNBA groupie but it didn't work for some reason. Maybe I'll try the LPGA next. I should have better luck.

Somehow I don't think most of the LPGA ladies will be interested in you.

Exactly, Mac.

Men who do this are the very reason that our court system by default has to rule in favor of the mother. I know in most cases it's justified, but I've known several men over the years who's wives cheated and divorced them and are left with every other weekend visits and kids that primarily reside on the other side of the city... regardless of "joint custody".

Any man who fathers a child and disappears should be castrated.

That's the point STU. They can fall for all of these women. Have a good time. JUST USE A CONDOM. I'll never understand why they all take that risk. Sometimes more than once in the case of 54 and 55.

I agree with Mac and everyone else who thinks it's deplorable to father a child and then turn your back on the baby and its mother, but that's kind of my point, who wouldn't think that's an awful thing to do (aside from the weasels who do it)? Given that, making such an issue about it kinda seems like spinning your wheels. I don't think there's a big Pro-Child Abandonment movement out there.

For the record, I think Orton's "beard" looks ridiculous, too, but I was puzzled by Mac making such an issue out of it as it seems rather Kathy & Judy-ish. Kind of like them making an issue out of the Northwestern women's LaCrosse team wearing flip-flops to the White House.

Plus, someone like Mackeyfish who proudly paraded about in Zubaz in the not too distant past really shouldn't be criticizing anyone's appearance. :P :D

Didn't you hear Tad... They accidently removed Mac's spine instead of his disk during his back surgery. :P

I do care that we have so many babies born out of wedlock, so many people on welfare, so much money (taxes) going to situations like this just as much as I hate the drug problem going on in suburban schools that lead to me paying their medical bills. But I don't care that Briggs is doing it anymore than some guy in Naperville that I have never heard of. I'm not more embarrassed by a Chicago Bear doing it than I am anyone else. I only root for Briggs to tackle people (which they don't seem to like to do these days). I do think they are role models, and that is sad, but I don't know why we have to report Briggs doing these things. Maybe if we only paid attention to the athletes on the field and quit trying to worry about anything they do off the field, maybe they wouldn't *be* role models.

The TMZ mentality in the sports world and entertainment world is just as annoying to me as the behavior of the overpaid athlete and the women who follow them.

Like I said, I'm not happy Briggs is doing it but I feel the same way about the tens of thousands of men who do this -- and most of them have jobs that I hope they do well, too.

It is a society problem, not a Chicago Bear problem.

Don't you mean the ESPN mentality? Overhype the stories that help us and downplay the stories that hurt us. I'm going into ESPN boycott-mode. Hopefully I'll hear you on Sirius soon Mackie.

• Countless studies show that fatherlessness, not race, is by far the most accurate predictor that a child will end up in poverty or in prison. And today, about 70 percent of black children are born into fatherless homes compared to 25 percent of white children.
• 85 percent of all black children living in poverty are raised in single-parent homes.
• The incomes of fatherless black families are only about one-fourth as high as the incomes of two-parent black families. A similar disparity exists among white one- and two-parent families.
• Ever since 1981, black families with two college-educated, working adults have earned more than similar white families in every age group and in every region of the United States. As early as 1970, black two-parent families outside of the South were already earning more than comparable white families.
• Black full-time workers today earn slightly more than white workers of the same age, sex, and I.Q.
• Because of affirmative action, black applicants are much more likely than white applicants to be admitted to the college of their choice, even though whites score about 200 points higher on the Scholastic Aptitude Test.

Rubbish. Your claims are not cited in your source, your source makes specious arguments, and the data derivation is outcome driven.

Reading is a skill.

Code:
Your claims are not cited in your source

Here's one random sample
Quote:
black men are less likely to marry in turn contributes to the 69 percent black out-of-wedlock birth rate and the corresponding high child poverty rate.

Code:
your source makes specious arguments, and the data derivation is outcome driven.

Quote:
This study analyzes differences in black and white child poverty based on data from the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth (NLSY), a large-scale multi-year national survey funded by the U.S. Department of Labor and other federal agencies. The NLSY is a statistically valid sample of 12,686 young men and women who were between the ages of 14 and 22 when they were first interviewed in 1979. These individuals have been re-interviewed continually since then and are now in their thirties and forties. This Heritage study covers events in the lives of these individuals between 1979 and 1996.

Instead of making random ass comments, back up your point (whatever it is) with some logic and data.
