I'm sure this will be as efficient as the video shows. There's a real problem with people shooting/stabbing one another at Wrigley, so I'm glad to see these steps are being taken.

The Cubs were given a pass last year by holding off on metal detectors until this season.

I think they should keep the perimeter around the park like was done for the playoffs last year. Yes I know that is unreasonable and unlikely.

I don't think it's really about shooting/stabbing. It's a dumb overreaction to terrorism by MLB. The hassle of the lines definitely caused me go to at least a few less Sox games last season. And here's the real stupidity- if someone wanted to blow off a bomb, they now have people congregating in a relatively small area outside the park where they could do a lot of damage.

And it isn't like you couldn't just have a delivery truck show up with 50 cases of hot dogs and in one of those cases there's some plastic explosive. There are so many ways to get bombs in, and like we saw in Brussels (and as you mention above), you don't have to be in to cause a hell of a lot of problems.

I went through this at other ballparks last year - Atlanta, SF, Minnesota, US Cellular. Was the worst at the latter by far. Don't take a bag, empty your pockets into your baseball cap, pick the line with no families in it and more men than women in it.

They were making no real attempt to look for anybody bringing in liquor, which is the important thing.

The government would much rather that bomb go off at the gates where maybe a security camera or camera phone gets some shitty footage of the blast compared to a wide open bowl shaped area covered by like 20 super high definition cameras.

Just another way for the safety-nazis to inconvience us under the auspices of saving us from something that is very unlikely to happen.

i agree whatever someone is going to bring in on their persons is not going to do much damage. maybe a gun that kills 10 or 20 people? whatever

the real scare is a drone flying over a populated stadium carrying a dirty bomb that kills all 60 thousand. and that is not a real stretch. but metal detectors at the gates would have nothing to do with that.

Unless it was Cominsky park, then it would only kill around 15k.

15,000? It's going to take a very nuanced understanding of White Sox fans to catch the ballpark being filled to that kind of capacity. In order to truly speculate White Sox attendance numbers one must be a White Sox fan, and I cant imagine there are too many Sox fans in ISIS.

No worries. I'm sure ISIS will consult a true Sock fan like yourself to ensure the proper night to conduct their dasdardly deeds.

Sadly a terrorist attack at a US sporting event is a matter of when not if.
Think what an Islamic fanatic or random nut could do with a rental van

I'm sure that's right, but the sad part is we're jumping through all these hoops that aren't going to stop it.

Pretty sure the Boston Marathon qualifies as a US sporting event...

Neither that or the festivities at Olympic Park in Atlanta in '96.

Oh wait, that one doesn't count because...

Sorry...once I also used "their" and "too" incorrectly in the same sentence.

Based on the topic that started the discussion I assumed it was obvious we were talking about stadiums but you win.
