Cant say the same for Durham or Dunston.

I think you're underrating Durham. And Dunston was just a good big league ballplayer that lasted a long time. But we're talking about the Hall of Fame and a guy we both agree was just an okay player has a higher batting average than a supposed borderline Hall of Famer?

OBP is more important and includes BA.

Durham was real good for a long time, he just didnt get up to that MVP level like Rollins briefly did.

Dunston was significantly below both guys, imo

Hall of Famers with batting averages lower than Dunston
Mike Schmidt
Gary Carter
Reggie Jackson
Harmon Killebrew
Luis Aparicio
Brooks Robinson
Carlton Fisk

All of them had much higher OBP than Dunston though

Baseball reference, puts Rollins in the category of likely HOF, but not deserving.

Hetre are Rollins numbers from Basebal Reference. The number in (173) is where he ranks.

Black Ink Batting - 14 (173), Average HOFer ≈ 27
Gray Ink Batting - 89 (270), Average HOFer ≈ 144
Hall of Fame Monitor Batting - 121 (118), Likely HOFer ≈ 100
Hall of Fame Standards Batting - 41 (153), Average HOFer ≈ 50
JAWS Shortstop (32nd), 46.0 career WAR/32.4 7yr-peak WAR/39.2 JAWS
Average HOF SS (out of 21) = 66.7 career WAR/42.8 7yr-peak WAR/54.8 JAWS

By ALL numbers except HoF Monitor Rollins is nearly 50% below the average HoFer

Black Ink: 14/27
Gray Ink: 89/144
Hof Standards: 41/50
Jaws career: 32.4/66.7
Jaws 7 year peak: 32.4/42.8
JAWS:39.2/54.8

In his 15 seasons he was MVP in 2007 and won 4 Gold Gloves again very good but not great

I'm with JORR and the others ... Hall of very good NOT a HoFer.

To be honest I just defended Hawk reflexively and assumed Rollins had a better career than he did. When I looked at his stats (dude never bat over .300) he's pretty clearly out. That MVP year was great and I assumed he had some years identical to it, but nah...

Can't we ever beat the A's? I mean, seriously.

This has been going on for 15 years or longer.

There's no worse way to begin a season than having to play the A's on the West Coast.

What is up with the loud bass hum on the broadcast? It was there last night on CSN and again tonight on WGN.

Part of playing in Oakland.

Quintana's pace has gotten slower and slower and slower.

Quintana is very average. Getting outpitched by a Sox castoff.

I don't want to indulge your W-L meme too much, but Quintana is outpitching Bassitt in this game.

Based on what? Quintana is facing a much weaker lineup and when he needed to make a pitch to keep the game scoreless he couldn't. That's why he never gets a fucking decision, not because of someone's fantasies about his "bad luck" or "lack of run support".

EDIT: Now he's outpitching Bassitt. High five!

And a leadoff double by a minor league catcher after his team gives him the lead. This is why he's average.

Aside from Abreu and Eaton (maybe Frazier too, we'll see how he does in the real league... that shot was encouraging) the Sox lineup is probably worse than Oakland's. Quintana doesn't walk batters, Bassitt does...Bassitt was living on borrowed time way before Frazier made him pay.

Meanwhile Quintana let a runner cross who got on because Robin ran a particularly stupid shift.

Aside from the way he looks, the money he has in the bank, and Eva Mendes, I'm probably a lot like Ryan Gosling.

There's an argument to be made that a 1-9 of guys who are all at least somewhat threatening is a more dangerous lineup than one with two maybe three major league players surrounded by the likes of Avisail Garcia (as a DH no less!) and the corpse of Jimmy Rollins.

Oh well, I guess the Great Quintana is gonna need some more "run support".

As of this posting the White Sox are winning 3-2. No more run support currently needed.

And Quintana K's Oakland's best hitter swinging in a high leverage situation.

Not sure how JR Richards II even let them back in the game?

 I can tell you were half ass listening to the TV broadcast of the game. He didn't compare Quintana to J.R. Richard. Even Hawk isn't that stupid. He was talking about Syndergaard.

Yea, I was watching last night thinking Ive never noticed how slow Quintana is. That's pretty annoying.

 That's not quite the "gotcha" you think it is. I was simply pointing that out because the entire specious concept of "run support" doesn't exist until the opposing pitcher actually allows the runs. In this case, what the fuck is Quintana's excuse? You can't even use the "Mighty Lineup Defense". Oakland is terrible. Their best hitter is probably broken down old Country Breakfast.

I will say this. There are pitchers who will always give up 3 when their team scores 2 and never shut it down at the right time. I'm with you on that.

Anyway, the Steve Trachsel pace is not helping anything

I get it that Oakland sucks, but I really don't care about the win margin. they took the first 2 in a place that's been hell on earth for as long as I can remember.

Am I looking at the schedule correctly? They are playing 8 games straight to open the season. Seems a lot. It's always seemed like they open the season and get a day off that first season.

Since the Cubs and Sox are on at the same time I've been stuck only seeing them play during commercial breaks vs Oakland.

1) I have no idea who anyone is on Oakland.

2) That stadium really is awesome. Are the lights broken or something? It looks so dark. Games in Oakland are always a cool atmosphere.

3) Hawk will always be my favorite

I noticed that too. Usually there are a lot of open dates the first couple weeks. Maybe because they're out west and they figured there wasn't the need for makeup dates.

Yes, that's it and its glorious

Nothing worse than waiting all spring for Baseball then having a day off after game 1
