I think those are interchangeable terms and you should pay attention to the meter depth rating plus time at that depth.

I would say yes as long as it gives you a depth rating (good to 15 feet!) like ike said

remember that it is very DARK under water. underwater photos are not that inneresting unless you have a pro lighting rig.

why are you asking?

Looking to do some snorkeling this weekend and I want to get a reasonable underwater camera. Fujifilm disposable seems to be good but it obviously isn't digital. I don't want to pay a lot for a camera I won't use a lot/never again. Other than that disposable camera the reviews for everything else under $100 are shitty.

Nas is used to taking pictures in dark environments.

I used a one of those disposable underwater film cameras. Worked OK. I agree kind of a waste to spend $150 on a crappy camera you'll never use again. The disposable is going to cost you $15 or so plus another $20 or so to get developed and digital scans. Dwayne's Photo is pretty cheap...a lot of local labs send their stuff there for processing. https://www.dwaynesphoto.com/

So Walgreens is out the question? What local labs? Do's and don'ts?

Independent shops. Places like Central Camera downtown. I mean you can try Walgreens but I figure if a photo is worth taking it is worth a few extra bucks to make sure it is done right.

Dos and donts? make sure the sun is shining like crazy b/c like I said after a few feet of depth the light diminishes rapidly. shutter speed on those things is probably about 1/100 so fast action will be blurred. A slow moving fish should be fine.

I hate snorkeling myself and would rather being swilling booze by the pool. one time a sailboat dropped us off for some snorkeling and the swells were pretty big I thought I was going to get impaled on a coral reef.
