Mac. You guys tossed around the idea last week in the up coming draft that a QB and o-line are the glaring needs but you guys did not expound on the fact that drafting a QB such as Matt Ryan will be another 2 year project and might set the Bears back on defense by the time the offense is ready to step up.

Do you tear all of this down and rebuild through the draft or do they start to plug holes and give it a shot through free agency?

You have an F5 tornado rip into Halas Hall and start with Ron Turner and his bubble screens and work your way down to the head coach ....

I think the following positional coaches have to placed into a catapult and sent into Lake Michigan:

The Bears lead the league in dropped passes - Sayonara Darryl Drake

The offensive line SUCKS BIG TIME - Arrivederci Harry Humplestein

The defense SUCKS - but I'm sure Lovie's butt budy Bob Babeotch isn't going to be shown the door. That's not to say upgrades at the D-Line and Linebackers Coach can't take place - Don't let the door knob hit ya where the good Lord split you Brick Haley or Hardy Nickerson.

And of course the offensive line needs a stick of dynamite shoved up it's ass - of the starters, if anybody other than Kreutz and new offensive right tackle John Tait survived, I'd be disappointed.

I think they need a linebacker symposium where they teach the pull out method in their blitz packages.

It's a start .

2 new OLinemen + Derek Anderson + a journeyman RB (just for next year) + resigning Briggs and Berrian = a trip back to the playoffs.

The defense will be fine provided we don't have 6 injuries to starters again. The ST will continue to be fine.

Hopefully Beekman will be able to step into a starting roll next year.

That won't happen of course. We'll end up drafting some lame QB in the 5th round hoping he'll be the next Tom Brady. Which is fine because a 5th round QB has just as good of a chance to be successful as a 1st round QB. But w/ our luck the 5th round QB will suck just the same.

Derek Anderson will end up in Minnesota where him and AD will dominate the division over the next 8 years.

Last year, the Bears had the easiest schedule in the NFL.

Going into this year, based upon last year's records, they had the SECOND EASIEST schedule in the NFL.

As it stands NOW, they have the SECOND HARDEST schedule in the NFL.

That's how fast things change in the NFL.

Did you realize the last place team in the NFC South the past four seasons has won the division the following season? Atlanta, then Carolina, then New Orleans and now Tampa again.

The Bears must adapt or die.

I don't understand why people think Anderson is going anywhere, nor why Minnesota wants another QB - that young Tavaris Jackson has been playing pretty well as of late.

Derek Anderson will be max tendered to a one year deal - meaning if any other team signs him to an offer sheet, the Browns have one week to match it, or get a 1st and 3rd in return. They've been waiting for a good quarterback in Cleveland for over 20 years - I highly doubt they'll let Anderson slip away.

maybe the bears can trade draft picks for cleveland's backup....the second coming of rick mirer, brady quinn.

which would suck because twice a year, we'd have to look at his ugly horse faced sister and her stupid half and half jersey.

The Bears most likely won't keep their mid-first round pick anyway. Why not use it to get someone with a body-of-work instead of taking a chance on two lower (Angelo offensive) draft picks?

At this point I would welcome anyone taller than Grossman. How tall is Brady Quinn? The meatball euphoria that would ensue upon Quinn's arrival and before everybody realizes that he sucks too would be nauseating.

I've been calling for Ron Turners head all year. No imagination, no adjustments to opponent or his own available talent. The Bears need Offensive lineman that are not "Fat Cats" and are willing to bust it every play, every game. These guys a worse than the line in front of Sayers back in the day.

It all starts up front and Anderson, Grossman, Orton or Favre all would be failures with the OL that the Bears have now. Protect the QB, mix up the attack and start throwing the ball down field more often.

Turner must go!!!!

Or trade down in the first round and third round - and then sign the Cleveland QB to a contract - giving up a low first and third in return.

After all, they have San Diego's 3rd rounder in the '08 draft.

Anderson is only 24. He's 6'6". He could be a future ELITE QB. He's got just as much potential to be Elite QB as any rookie drafted QB last year or this year. His stats for the year are 85QB rating 3,600 yards passing 30/16 TD/Int ratio.

I know the stats are not in the elite category yet, teams never trade away their Brady or Manning. Anderson's got a good chance to develop into something more.

TJacks is a little injury prone. He's the 30th ranked QB by rating w/ a 6/10 TD/int ratio. His stats are horrible. Then you throw in he's got the best running game statically (not opinion) in the SB era and you have a pretty bad QB.

Frank Coztansa wrote:

Cleveland would not get fair value back for Quinn now they won't trade him. Not only that, the cap hit would be crazy. I totally agree that Quinn could be the 2nd coming of Mirer. That's why like Anderson. You never know how a rookie is going to turn out.

Badger Vince wrote:

True Dat! I've been a Turner backer until I did a comparison of Turner against Shoupe and Shaye. I found out that Turner hasn't been any better.

This is what I hope will happen. If you look at the draft point system you can see that if the Bears have the 14th pick and trade down to say 29 we could pick up an early 3rd round pick. So basically the off season could be Anderson + our 2nd and two 3rd round picks along w/ our other picks.

if the browns make anderson available, id love to see the bears make a push. but, that is far from curing all that ails on this team.

Oline is still horrible

unless that Oline becomes elite by next year (which cannot happen because angelo for some dumbfuck reason will not draft Olinemen high), the bears need a #1 running back. benson was good behind thomas jones, but he is not a #1

WR. id pay berrian, but he still needs a viable #2 opposite of him. moose is too old to seperate from anyone in this league anymore, and hester is not and will never be an everydown, or even a 25 play WR.

the bears secondary is not that good. vasher and tillman are, but the safeties suck. trading away chris harris and bringing in archuletta were bad moves. and as far as mike brown goes, mac is right-- kerry wood in shoulder pads

and last but not least, the coaching staff. these assholes are way way too stubborn and they never ever seem to adjust in game and id say 19 games out of 20 get outcoached in the second half

so yeah. a good QB is a great start, but there is a laundry list of problems to fix with this bears team.

I am curious of the staus of Michael the Burner Turner. Is he unrestricted or a RFA?

I think he would provide the kind of back who would help the Beloved.

As far as Anderson, I agree with Grid. He is going nowhere. He is by far the best QB they have had since Bernie Kosar.

Burner is an unrestricted FA - however... Darren Sproles ran wild on Sunday after Turner banged up his shoulder after several carries. Is Turner nothing more than 'a system RB' - much like all the Denver RBs? Keep an eye on that one.

On Turner, everyone that needs a RB is looking at him. He'll be over priced. Turner is a UFA. Note that Turner has only played in junk time. I'd be cautious of him.

On Anderson, here's why I think he'll be moved. Clevelands D is 30th in almost every stat. In fact Cleveland is 5-0 when they've held teams under 20 pts. Brown's traded their 1st round pick in '08 to get Quinn. Thus have no #1. Doesn't it make sense, if they believe Quinn is the future, to get a 1st and 3rd round pick for Anderson to shore up their horrible defense?

On McNabb, His contract runs until 2012 (maybe 2011) and he's paid 10m/year. That means 2 things. First, the cap hit to Philly would be sizable. Secondly, McNabb would have to cut his salary in 1/2 to be attractive to any team. Would you take a 5m/yr salary cut?

I wouldn't want to spend 8% of my cap space on a QB that's not played a complete season since 2004.

If I am correct, Justin Fargas is also an UFA. He runs hard, he is fast, he is now proven and I liked him coming out of college.

What the fuck would you expect him to say? Four guys are gone - one way or another - despite what Lovie says.

....and speaking of Huggy Bear's kid. He got hurt last week - and he's out this week - anything serious that'll hurt him in free agency?

Fargas' sprained right MCL won't require surgery, but he is unlikely to play again this season. Lane Kiffin expressed hope that the team could re-sign RB Justin Fargas in the offseason.
