A decent movie but I seen it before. JJ Abrams proves right in this movie he is a no talent hack. every scene in this movie is a rip off from one of the previous movies.
The one where the big bad kills [/spoiler]Han[spoiler] the entire thing down to the lifting is straight out of Empire Strikes back when Vader hacks Lukes hand off.Just like Lost he lest too many gaping plot holes and questions that the other directors are going to have to try and answer and you know what they probably can't because just like Lukas no one knows what the fuck Abrams was thinking. Dude sucks,this is not a new thing for me go back and see what I wrote about what he did to Star Trek. The only reason those didn't tank was the casting and casting was never a strong suit in this universe.

Finally saw this. It was good, not great, probably a lot closer to the ok side of good than the great side.. A lot of it felt like a rip off of the first Star Wars. The first 45 minutes were basically a re-skin of the first movie. Looking for a droid on a desert planet, droid hooks up with young jedi blah blah blah.

I managed to make it all the way to the movie without hearing any spoilers so I didn't know that Han died, but by the end of the movie I was cheering for him to die in every scene. His performance in the movie was one of the worst performances I've ever seen in any movie. He made Jar Jar look like a good character. Harrison Ford hammed it up so much in this role I half expected him to turn and wink at the camera after every line. It also looked like he was pausing for a laugh track after every line. Just an awful, mailed in performance. And the connection to his son (another rip off of original trilogy) felt forced and had no connection with me by the time it reached its climatic scene.

The bad guy was terrible too. They replaced Darth Vader with a whinny teenager who throws temper tantrums.


All in all the movie felt like a placeholder for a future film.

Shakes, right there with you. Han and Leia were poor. The bad guy had the potential to be awesome and turned out to be a sissy.

I think a lot of people are unfairly judging Ren by Vader's standards. While obviously that's what he's trying to be, the movie makes it immediately clear that he's not. He kills a bunch of villagers and makes a blaster bolt freeze in mid-air and captures Poe, but then Poe straight up mocks him face to face. Vader captures Leia and she just lies a bit to him. Hux disses Ren sorta like Motti disses Vader. Vader straight up chokes the dude and Ren just kind of takes it. They both kill their father (figures) but Ben is under no illusion Vader will turn (he's evil) while Han thinks he can turn Ren (he's clueless). Vader has Luke dead to rights but doesn't defeat him because his wingman takes him out. At no point is Ren even close to defeating Rey because he's directly shot by a furball, can't defeat a dude in lightsaber combat who has no training, and then is straight up schooled in a fight with her after she "outforces" him in picking up the saber. Snoke is the only guy in the movie that really takes him seriously, but since he's a Sith you'd assume he's just using him. There's probably a deleted scene where Leia tells stories to the alliance about all the times he pooped his pants as a kid and they all have a good laugh about it. Then most glaringly he doesn't have JEJ's voice, so good luck with that. Even then his modulated voice isn't menacing in the least, which was obviously a conscious decision from a design standpoint.

He may totally suck next episode, but I think JJ got what he wanted out of him this episode.

I guess we're all just over thinking a movie ala a Clerks scene.

Kylo Ren being a complete and unchanging character would have been pretty compelling for a movie arc designed to be 8+ hours.

While Vader was a strong villian, he never seemed overly cruel or insane. Where as Palpatine seemed to enjoy inflicting pain. I could see them turning Kylo into a much more sadistic villain especially following his first major defeat.

I am like an hour into the movie, and I am not impressed. I left off where Solo is at that bar with the storm trooper and girl. I am really not a Star Wars super fan, but I like the series.

You guys might get a kick out of this...

I think that's why I liked it. It drew on those feelings. I forgot about those awful ones and I'm hoping it was setting up the next 2.

I absolutely recognized the scenes were the same as the originals while I was watching. Same with the plot line. Everybody recognized that.

I watched this movie with my niece and nephews. They had seen the other movies. I liked the way they did it. I felt like a kid again for those few hours.

True for me, also, except for the niece and nephew part. I probably won't have any.

Give me your sister's number. We'll see if we can make it happen.
