There's a gas station at Homan and Harrison, literally 2 blocks from the police station, and someone is always getting shot over there. You all remember the chick that shot the other chick over what she said on Facebook? I was at that gas station the day before.

criminal court is right there too. don't blue line it to that court and take your cell phone. you'll have to bury it under a bush in the landscaping outside while you're inside and hope no one notices and takes it.

I'm not afraid of walking by a group of kids in any area. Not sure if I still have a good feel of what danger looks like or if I am an idiot. I think eyes usually tell the story. Even the roughest looking kids still give you the head nod as long as you don't appear to be afraid of making eye contact.

It's crazy Doug...I live immediately off Kedzie (main street) in a newer condo development, and the police station is in sight, so nothing ever happens in my section...but as soon as you go a block or two away, that's where the shit goes down. I love the convenience of being close to the Blue Line and working downtown.

All that being said, the GF lives in Richton Park, so I'll probably be giving up the city life when the lease is up. No way in hell I'd raise any kids in the city if I have any. And those express Metra trains are awesome :D

Nas, I aint worried about them messing with me (I wish a "brotha" would" ), but when they are crowded up like that, that's usually when someone who has beef with another gets to shooting and I aint trying to get caught in no one's crossfire.

I don't believe for a second that there are Chicago cops working today who are dumb enough to high five in public after shooting someone. Maybe a year or two ago, but not now.

Just a video of the boy dead, you can see his pants still hanging from the fence when he tried to straddle it and got shot.

Lived there for 11 months. The very mention of Tennessee North makes my skin crawl.

Went back out there 6-7 years ago for a LL ball game. Before the top of the first inning, a group of Richton Park mothers started screaming "send their asses back to the ghetto" & "we don't want them out here". I first laughed at them about the whole of Richton Park (shitty houses, stores, schools, location compared to Morgan Park/Washington Heights). I next inquired as to which players were their kids. After we got up 27-0 with one out in the top of the second I asked for more commentary. None was forthcoming...except to call me an asshole.

 None, but I thought you would have figured that from the final score. Virtually every kid on that team either walked or rode his bike to the home games. Except for my own son & the catcher who lived a block away & drove to the park with me. :)
